Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, all economic and social activities, including sports events, have been severely affected and put on hold. However, Honda Vietnam (HVN) is determined to bring back the VMRC championship to Vietnamese audiences as soon as the situation improves and economic and social activities resume.

Since its inaugural edition in 2018, VMRC has gradually established itself as the largest and most prestigious professional racing championship in Vietnam. This championship not only provides opportunities for professional racers but also for “Wave Riders” clubs across the country.

VMRC has created a professional platform for “Wave Riders” clubs nationwide.

After a rigorous selection process, VMRC has become the ultimate playground for the most skilled racers and “Wave Riders” clubs in Vietnam. Thanks to VMRC, the motorcycle racing movement in Vietnam has received significant encouragement and has transitioned from the streets to professional tracks.

Now entering its third season, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Honda Vietnam continues to invest more in sponsoring the championship, with the aim of enhancing the overall professional quality and organization of VMRC 2020. The opening race of the VMRC 2020 season is scheduled to take place on June 14, 2020, at the 2K racetrack in Binh Duong province. Prior to that, on June 11, 2020, the official athlete selection for the 2020 season will be held at the same racetrack in Binh Duong province.

Racers competing in the Blade 110 category at VMRC 2019

VMRC 2020 will consist of the same four racing categories as in previous seasons, which are the Blade 110cc, MSX 125cc, Winner 150cc, and UB130cc. Additionally, this year’s season will introduce a new category called the Vietnam Talent Cup, dedicated to young talents aged 15 and above who have a passion for motorcycle racing and a desire to pursue it using the NSF100 model.

The Vietnam Talent Cup category has high expectations and will bring a fresh wave of excitement to VMRC and the racing scene in Vietnam. It is worth mentioning that this category is unique as it does not use the Underbone type of motorcycle. Instead, the NSF100 bikes with a sporty design will be used, making VMRC 2020 the first professional championship in Vietnam to feature sport motorcycles. Fans are eagerly anticipating the performance of these young racers.

In their ongoing effort to professionalize racing, HVN has collaborated with the organizing committee to ensure a careful selection process for racers before each season. The VMRC 2020 received an overwhelming response, with over 300 racers registering for the five racing categories. This number is three times higher than the registrations received for VMRC 2018 and twice as high as those for VMRC 2019.

The selection of VMRC 2020 racers took place from June 9 to June 11, 2020, with the goal of selecting seven racers for the Vietnam Talent Cup category, twelve racers for the Blade 110cc category, twelve racers for the MSX125cc category, twelve racers for the Winner 150cc category, and a maximum of sixteen racers from “Wave Riders” clubs across Vietnam.

Notably, as part of the joint efforts with the Vietnam Motorcycle and Bicycle Federation to enhance the professionalism of participating racers, those officially selected for VMRC 2020 will receive a racer card certified by the federation. This marks the first time in the history of racing in Vietnam, and specifically in HVN’s sponsorship activities, that racers will be officially issued certification cards as members of the Vietnam Motorcycle and Bicycle Federation.

In addition to administrative aspects, the technical aspects of the championship will also be improved. The racing bikes, modified from Honda Blade 110, Honda MSX 125, Honda Winner 150 models, will undergo fine-tuning by Honda Racing Vietnam to enhance performance compared to the previous season. Moreover, the Honda Wave bikes modified by “Wave Riders” clubs to participate in the UB130 category are expected to deliver many surprises. Additionally, the introduction of the newcomer Honda NSF100 is anticipated to make a significant impact in the VMRC 2020 season.

A special highlight of the first round of VMRC 2020 is that it will be the first race not only in Vietnam but also worldwide to take place after the global outbreak of COVID-19. This truly reflects Vietnam’s and HVN’s unwavering efforts to ensure the continuity of racing activities despite the pandemic. The opening round of VMRC 2020 is expected to be a gift to speed enthusiasts who have been eagerly awaiting the return of the championship.

The first round of the Vietnam Motorcycle Racing Championship 2020 sponsored by Honda Vietnam will officially commence on June 14, 2020, at the 2K racetrack in Binh Duong province.
