Volkswagen to launch new luxury car duo in Vietnam this month, delivering before Tet.

Both of the latest Volkswagen car models have a common characteristic - they are both imported directly from China.

The Vietnamese automobile market is preparing to welcome two new names from the German brand Volkswagen. Specifically, Volkswagen plans to introduce two new models in Vietnam in December 2023, namely the Viloran and Teramont X.

Both the Viloran and Teramont X are fully imported from China, while current Volkswagen models in Vietnam are fully imported from the United States, Europe, or India. Both the Viloran and Teramont X are produced by the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture in China.

In Vietnam, the Viloran will be available in two versions: Premium and Luxury. The expected prices for these two versions are 1,989 billion VND and 2,188 billion VND, respectively. Meanwhile, the Teramont X will be priced at 2,168 billion VND. Deposits are now being accepted by all dealers for these two new models.

Volkswagen Viloran

Developed on the familiar MQB platform of Volkswagen, the Viloran has dimensions of 5,346 x 1,976 x 1,781 mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 3,180 mm. Compared to the Kia Carnival, the Viloran is 191 mm longer, 19 mm narrower, 6 mm taller, and has a slightly longer wheelbase by more than 90 mm.

The Volkswagen Viloran features the distinctive design style of European and American minivans. The exterior is adorned with chrome details, giving it a premium look.

Specific information about the equipment of the Volkswagen Viloran in Vietnam is not yet available. In the Chinese market, the Viloran is equipped with modern features such as IQ.Light LED headlights, power sliding doors and step boards, 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, and LED taillights.

The spacious 3-row interior of the Volkswagen Viloran seats 7 people in a 2+2+3 configuration. The middle row features 2 business seats that can be adjusted to a maximum recline angle of 70 degrees. These seats also come with calf support, heating, cooling, and massage functions. Additional features include armrests, cup holders, phone trays, charging ports, storage compartments, and separate control switches.

The luxurious interior of the Volkswagen Viloran is wrapped in leather and adorned with wood trim. It is equipped with power-adjustable/heated front seats, a 10.3-inch LCD digital instrument cluster, a 12-inch touchscreen center display, a compact electronic gear lever, wireless phone charging, electronic parking brake, sunroof, and Harman Kardon audio system.

According to a sales consultant, the Volkswagen Viloran in Vietnam will be powered by a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 220 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. The engine will be paired with a 7-speed wet-clutch DSG automatic transmission.

In terms of safety, the Viloran is equipped with features such as adaptive cruise control, reverse assist, a 360-degree camera, lane keeping assist, emergency automatic braking, blind-spot warning, and tire pressure monitoring.

The Volkswagen Viloran will be available in 5 colors: red, black, white, brown, and silver. Delivery is expected before Tet holiday.

Volkswagen Teramont X

The Volkswagen Teramont X is essentially the coupe version of the Teramont SUV currently sold in Vietnam. It shares the same MQB platform and has dimensions of 4,917 x 1,989 x 1,729 mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 2,980 mm.

Compared to the Teramont, the Teramont X features a more impressive and sportier exterior design. The equipment for this model in Vietnam has not been announced yet. In China, it features matrix LED headlights, L-shaped LED daytime running lights, integrated LED logo, alloy wheels with diameters ranging from 18 to 21 inches, and LED taillights.

Inside the Teramont X, there is a 5-seat interior instead of 7 seats like the Teramont. The interior features include leather seats, a 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 3-spoke steering wheel with integrated function buttons, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12-inch touchscreen center display, a Harman Kardon 12-speaker audio system, a power tailgate with foot sensor, a head-up display for the driver, automatic air conditioning, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, and an electronic parking brake.

It is not yet known which engine the Teramont X will use in Vietnam. In China, it is available with two engine options: a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine delivering 220 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque, and a V6 twin-turbocharged petrol engine with a displacement of 2.5L and producing 299 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a 7-speed wet-clutch DSG automatic transmission and a 4Motion all-wheel drive system.

The safety features of the Teramont X include adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, front collision warning with automatic emergency braking, automated parking assist, lane keeping assist, driver attention warning, front/rear parking sensors, and door-open collision warning.

The dealership promises to deliver the car before Tet holiday, similar to the Viloran. Moreover, Volkswagen Vietnam plans to switch to importing the Teramont from China, which may help lower the Volkswagen Teramont price compared to the current price of 2.499 billion VND, making it more accessible to customers.
