The Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Berlinetta Touring from 1937 has impressively outshone many prestigious names at the Concorso d’Eleganza, such as the world’s most expensive car, the Bugatti La Voiture Noire, to claim the title of the most beautifully designed car.

This annual event, held along the shores of Lake Como, Italy, specializes in honoring the rarest, most expensive, and most eye-catching vintage cars in the world. The Bugatti La Voiture Noire, possessing half of the classic genes of the Type 57SC Atlantic, also participated in this event but was unable to surpass the over 80-year-old Alfa Romeo.

Alfa Romeo produced only 30 of these elegant 2-door coupes during the period of 1937 – 1940. Featuring a race-inspired chassis that was extremely successful for Alfa Romeo at the time, combined with an all-alloy straight-six engine and twin superchargers, the car is not only super eye-catching but also possesses a powerful (for those times) output of 180 horsepower.

The independent suspension system or rear-mounted gearbox were also technological advancements rarely seen at the time. The award-winning model at the Concorso d’Eleganza is one of the 5 Superleggera touring cars developed by Carrozzeria Touring. Perhaps if the original Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic prototype had been present at this event, the Alfa Romeo would have had a more worthy opponent.
