Avatr Technology, previously a partnership between Changan and Nio, was established in 2018 with each party holding a 50% stake. However, due to financial difficulties, Nio withdrew from the company after two years. In 2021, Changan partnered with battery giant CATL to replace Nio, and later on, well-known phone manufacturer Huawei joined the venture as well.
One of the joint venture’s vehicles is the Avatr 12, which is the second car co-developed by Changan, CATL, and Huawei. It has been priced between 300,800 yuan to 400,800 yuan (US$42,100 – US$54,800) in China.
Recent information from the joint venture reveals that the Avatr 12 has already started being delivered, and it is expected to contribute significantly to Avatr Technology’s sales in December and the months to come.
Sedan Avatr 12 starts delivery in China
The Avatr 12 is a large-sized fully electric sedan with dimensions of 5020/1999/1460 mm (length/width/height) and a wheelbase of 3020 mm. It is available in two drivetrain options: RWD 230 kW and AWD 425 kW. The AWD version can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.
Both versions are equipped with a 94.5 kWh battery pack from CATL, providing a range of 700 km and 650 km, respectively. The car also supports high-voltage fast charging at 750V, allowing it to travel 200 km in just 10 minutes.
The interior of the car features an extremely long 35.4-inch CD screen that stretches from the driver to the passenger side. Additionally, it has a smaller 15.6-inch center control screen. The car is equipped with Huawei’s HarmonyOS 4 cabin SW.
According to Huawei, the Avatr 12 is equipped with three lidar units that provide data input for their ADS 2.0 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). This system can handle 90% of driving situations in urban areas without the need for HD maps, making autonomous driving capability one of the main selling points of the Avatr 12.
