Engine Update
In the 2024 version, BMW has introduced a new generation 3.0L, 6-cylinder inline engine for the X5 sDrive40i, xDrive40i, and X6 xDrive40i. This engine is equipped with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, featuring a 12 horsepower electric motor and a peak torque of 199 Nm. Together, the drivetrain delivers an impressive total output of 375 horsepower and a peak torque of 519 Nm. Compared to the previous 6-cylinder engine, which offered 335 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque, this update brings a significant improvement in performance.

According to BMW, the 2024 X5 and X6 xDrive40i models can now accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 5.2 seconds, outperforming the previous model’s 5.3 seconds.
The X5 and X6 M60i xDrive, on the other hand, still feature the powerful 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8 engine, but with the addition of a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This combination maintains the engine’s output at 523 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque. With these figures, both models can impressively accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.2 seconds.

In this upgrade, the X5 xDrive50e PHEV replaces the previous xDrive45e model. The power output from the electric motor and the 3.0L 6-cylinder turbocharged engine has been significantly increased to 483 horsepower and 700 Nm, compared to the previous 389 horsepower and 600 Nm. The electric motor contributes a base performance of 194 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque, with the ability to provide a temporary torque boost of up to 449 Nm. As a result, this new version can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, showcasing improved performance compared to the previous 5.3 seconds.
Furthermore, BMW has enhanced the xDrive50e with a larger capacity 25.7 kWh battery pack, up from the previous 17.1 kWh pack. All three engines are now paired with an improved 8-speed automatic transmission, ensuring smoother gear shifts.
New Look
Aside from the performance upgrades, the 2024 X5 and X6 also come with a refreshed appearance. BMW mentions that the outline of the headlights has been narrowed by 35 mm, giving the models a sleeker look. Additionally, the front bumpers have been refined, adding to the overall aesthetic.
Buyers of the 2024 X5 have the option to choose an illuminated kidney grille, while the X6 comes standard with the M Sport package. For those who opt for the M60i xDrive models, they will enjoy the V8 engines with quad exhaust pipes, adding a sporty touch to the exterior.

Moreover, customers can select from new exterior paint colors for both the X5 and X6, including Blue Ridge Mountain metallic, Brooklyn Grey metallic, Skyscraper Grey metallic, and Frozen Pure Grey. The X5 M60i xDrive is available in Marina Bay Blue, while the X6 M60i xDrive comes in Isle of Man Green.

Inside the cabin, BMW has made more significant changes. The 2024 X5 and X6 now feature a single curved glass display housing a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a 14.9-inch digital instrument cluster. Additionally, an interior ambient lighting system with 15 different colors allows for customized mood lighting.

Technology Update
In terms of driver assistance technologies, BMW has added the highway driving assist system as an option in the professional driver assistance package. This system allows drivers to take their hands off the steering wheel on the highway at speeds of up to 85 mph.
The instrument cluster now supports an assisted view mode, displaying detected vehicles from cameras and sensors on the current and adjacent lanes.
Furthermore, the professional parking assist system is available for the 2024 BMW X5 and X6 models.
Both the 2024 X5 and X6 will be showcased to the public at the Amelia Concours d’Elegance in March. Production is set to begin in April at BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
