Manufactured by Jiangling Ford in China, the Bronco will be available on the market in spring 2024. When produced in the populous market, this off-road SUV promises to be significantly cheaper than imported cars from the United States.
The Ford Bronco, produced by the joint venture between Ford and Jiangling Motors (JMC), has been spotted testing on the streets of China. The off-road SUV has completed the registration process with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, a crucial step to bring the car to the market. It is expected that Ford Bronco will be launched in China in March or May 2024.
According to the images published by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, the Ford Bronco in the populous market has some differences compared to the cars in the US. Specifically, the car only has a 4-door design and is equipped with 17-inch wheels decorated in a studded style.
Compared to the cars in the US, the off-road SUV has some distinctive features. It has the word “Ford” in smaller letters on the grille right above the word “Bronco”. In addition, the name of the joint venture Jiangling Ford is written in simplified Chinese characters at the rear of the car.
Other than that, the car still has a removable top design, the interior floor can be washed with water, and it uses off-road tires and front/rear bumpers that meet the demand for off-road capability like the Ford Bronco currently being sold in some other markets.
According to the announcement by the MIIT, the Ford Bronco has a total length ranging from 4,800 mm to 4,825 mm, a width of 2,070 mm, and a height of 1,990 mm. Compared to the cars in the US, the Chinese Bronco is slightly wider and taller.
The interior images of the Chinese-made Bronco have also been leaked online. From the images, it can be seen that the interior has a design similar to the cars in the US. Although the test cars have not been equipped with a center control screen, based on the position of the open doors, the size of the screen in the domestic version seems to be similar to the international version. In addition, the air conditioning area below the screen and the air vents distributed vertically will continue to be maintained.
The Bronco for China will be equipped with a 2.3-liter turbocharged engine produced domestically by the joint venture Changan Ford. The engine generates a power of 271 horsepower and a torque of 455 Nm, which is 29 horsepower less than the standard US model with the 2.3L EcoBoost engine. The transmission is also expected to be different, as the Chinese Bronco will use an 8-speed automatic transmission instead of the 10-speed automatic transmission in the US and will not have a manual transmission option.
