After an absence of nearly 4 years, the next generation of Mitsubishi Pajero is expected to make a comeback in 2024.
In March 2023, Mitsubishi announced its plans to introduce 16 new vehicles within the next 5 years. Among these vehicles will be at least 2 new SUV models, including a monocoque body-on-frame SUV that is optimized for comfort and on-road driving, as well as a vehicle that shares a frame with the Triton.
According to reports, there is a high likelihood that these new SUV models will be the new Pajero and Pajero Sport. This possibility is reinforced by the recent remarks made by Shaun Westcott, CEO of Mitsubishi Australia, who referred to the Pajero name as “very, very valuable” to the company, emphasizing that anything carrying the Pajero name needs to be truly special, as it is indeed a fantastic car.
Koichi Namiki, Mitsubishi Motors’ EVP of Global Product Strategy, also expressed the significance of the Pajero brand, stating that “Pajero is the heart of our brand.” As a result, the next Mitsubishi Pajero will not share platforms with other brands. However, the Japanese automaker has hinted at the possibility of using “systems and components” from alliances.
Meanwhile, the second rumored model, the Pajero Sport, is expected to share the same frame as the Triton.
Mitsubishi Pajero halted production in 2021 after almost 4 decades on the market. The total number of vehicles sold reached over 3.3 million by the time production ceased.
Mitsubishi plans to launch the new Pajero around the end of 2024, while the new Pajero Sport is expected to debut slightly later in 2025.
