The Honda WR-V is a new addition to Honda’s vehicle lineup in Japan. It is marketed as a budget-friendly SUV-B model, positioned below the Vezel. This particular model shares similarities with the Elevate model for India and is the first Honda product to be imported from India into the Japanese market.
It’s worth noting that the Japanese version of the Honda WR-V is different from the second-generation WR-V available in Southeast Asian markets such as Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia. The Japanese version has a boxier design and offers better ground clearance.
Visually, the WR-V remains largely unchanged compared to the Elevate model, apart from the branding on the tailgate. The dimensions of the WR-V are as follows: length of 4,312 mm, width of 1,790 mm, and height of 1,650 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm.
Inside the cabin, the WR-V features scratch-resistant hard plastic materials, glossy black accents, and gray fabric seats. The rear passenger space is spacious, and the car offers a large luggage compartment with a flat floor.
Interestingly, the car’s dashboard-mounted infotainment screen appears to be smaller compared to the 10.25-inch screen found in the Elevate model for the Indian market. It is accompanied by a basic analog cluster. Additionally, the car will come equipped with various Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features as part of the Honda Sensing package.
The Honda WR-V/Elevate has been developed at Honda’s Asia Pacific R&D Center in Thailand and is manufactured in Rajasthan, India. It shares a platform with the Honda City and is powered by a single engine option – the i-VTEC 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol engine, generating a maximum power of 119 horsepower and a torque of 145 Nm.
The 2024 Honda WR-V will be available at Japanese dealerships in spring 2024, with prices starting from 2 million yen (approximately $13,240 USD) and going up to below 2.5 million yen (approximately $16,550 USD).
