Amazon Announces Partnership with Hyundai to Sell Cars Online
Amazon has recently revealed its plan to begin selling new cars on its platform in the United States starting in 2024. This announcement came after a partnership agreement was signed between Amazon and Hyundai at the Los Angeles Auto Show. As part of this agreement, Hyundai will become the first car brand to offer vehicles for sale on Amazon’s online platform.
Through this new service, customers will have access to a wide range of car models, designs, colors, and features. They can conveniently browse and select their preferred car, and complete the purchase online using the various payment methods available on the platform.
Amazon has emphasized that customers will have the option to either pick up their purchased cars and accessories at the showroom or have them delivered by local dealers. This innovative shopping experience is expected to offer numerous advantages for both dealers and consumers, enhancing convenience and accessibility.
In recent years, the direct-to-consumer model has been increasingly adopted by electric car companies like Tesla, as they aim to eliminate traditional dealership intermediaries to reduce costs for consumers.
Hyundai already has experience selling cars online in its home country of South Korea and neighboring country Japan. In South Korea, customers have been able to purchase the versatile sports model Casper directly from Hyundai’s website since 2021, eliminating the need to visit a physical dealership.
In Japan, Hyundai has been successfully selling the Ioniq 5 EV and Nexo fuel cell vehicles online since May 2022.
