It has been quite some time since we last had the chance to experience a car that brings such excitement. The car in question is the Infiniti QX60, a luxurious 7-seater SUV from Japan that boasts elegant style, excellent 3rd-row seats, a spacious interior, and an impressive driving experience.

The Infiniti QX60 was introduced to the Vietnamese market in mid-2016 and has since become one of the flagship products of the Japanese brand. This model competes with other luxury mid-size SUVs in the same segment, such as the Audi Q7, BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and Lexus RX350.

Exterior Design

Overall, the Infiniti QX60 boasts a highly captivating design that appeals to middle-aged customers. The front features a honeycomb grille with the Infiniti logo integrated in the middle, complemented by a camera. The sleek bi-xenon headlights resemble the eyes of an eagle, accompanied by daytime running LED lights.

On the sides, the standout feature is the elegant C-pillar design that allows passengers in the 3rd-row seats to still experience a spacious and uncramped environment. The power-folding mirrors include integrated turn signals, heating function, auto tilt-down in reverse, and a camera, although they are slightly small in size. The standard version comes with 18-inch wheels, which might seem slightly undersized compared to the car’s overall dimensions.

Compared to its competitors in the same segment, the Infiniti QX60 is the longest in length, measuring 5,093mm, with a width of 1,960mm, height of 1,742mm, and a wheelbase of 2,900mm. Consequently, regardless of where you sit in the car, comfort is guaranteed.

At the rear of the car, the taillight cluster grabs attention with its two C-shaped LED strips that exude style. The storage space is a standout feature of the Infiniti QX60. Even when the 3rd-row seats are up, there is still sufficient space for essential luggage. Moreover, when the 3rd-row seats are folded down, it creates a spacious area that can accommodate up to 5 golf sets.

Interior Space

The Infiniti QX60 truly stands as one of the ideal SUVs for families when considering the usable space it offers. This is evident from the driver’s seat to the 3rd-row seats, which are exceptionally comfortable and spacious.

However, the QX60 still has room for improvement in certain areas. For instance, the steering wheel feels rather ordinary, the center control panel is designed in a classical style with multiple buttons that lack visual appeal, the sunroof is relatively small, the 2nd-row seats lack variety, and access to the 3rd-row seats is somewhat inconvenient.

The Infiniti QX60 features a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with 2 memory positions, while the front passenger seat is 6-way power-adjustable. The centerpiece of the control panel is an 8-inch touch screen, which integrates a rearview camera, a 3-zone independent air conditioning system with microfilter, a Bose 13-speaker sound system, a 1-disc CD/DVD player, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, an around view monitor system with moving object detection function, and front/rear parking sensors.

The 2nd-row seats can be folded in a 60/40 ratio and slid to optimize space, while the 3rd-row seats can be folded in a 50/50 ratio to expand the cargo space.

Safety Features

In terms of safety, the Infiniti QX60 is equipped with a range of cutting-edge safety features, including ABS with BA, advanced dual-stage airbags, EBD, VDC with traction control, a tire pressure monitoring system, a Zone Body structure with a rigid passenger compartment and front/rear energy-absorbing zones, and a 360-degree camera.

Performance

The most remarkable aspect of the Infiniti QX60 is its performance, and it has been a long time since we last came across a car that brings such excitement. Despite its large size, the QX60 feels solid and instills confidence in the driver and passengers, whether driving at high speeds or navigating sharp turns.

The Infiniti QX60 is equipped with a 3.5L V6 engine that churns out 263 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and a peak torque of 334 Nm at 4,400 rpm. This power is combined with an electronically controlled CVT transmission and an intelligent AWD system.

The QX60 offers 4 driving modes: Eco (Economy), Standard, Snow, and Sport. Eco, Standard, and Sport modes affect the throttle response, while we haven’t had the chance to test the Snow mode due to the absence of suitable road conditions. Perhaps with the rainy and slippery roads in Vietnam, the Snow mode will come into play. Eco and Standard modes are tailored for drivers with a calm driving style, aiming for fuel efficiency. For those who enjoy spirited driving, Sport mode is ideal.

In Sport mode, a gentle press of the accelerator is all it takes for the car to accelerate quickly, without feeling the weight of a 2-ton 7-seater SUV. Furthermore, the accelerator has a kick-down mode that enables easy overtaking of vehicles ahead by fully depressing it.

While the world is gradually transitioning to electric power steering, the Infiniti QX60 still retains a hydraulic power steering system that adjusts according to the vehicle’s speed. This system may not be suitable for women, but for men, it is truly exhilarating. It provides an authentic driving experience and allows the driver to better feel the car.

To gain a deeper understanding of the QX60, we set up cones for slalom driving to test the car’s chassis. However, this test is not challenging enough for the long luxury SUV that measures over 5 meters in length and weighs over 2 tons. Despite navigating the cones at speeds of 60-70 km/h, the car remains stable and firmly planted on the road.

Another strong point of the Infiniti QX60 is its exceptional sound insulation. The cabin space is remarkably quiet. Using a noise measuring device, we tested it at a speed of 100 km/h and recorded a reading of only 65-67 dB, which is truly impressive.

Overall Assessment

Considering the value it brings, the Infiniti QX60 is undoubtedly one of the top choices for customers seeking a luxurious 7-seater SUV in the 3 billion VND price range in Vietnam. Although there are areas that are not as impressive when compared to its competitors, the QX60 delivers fully when it comes to equipment, exterior design, and engine performance.

In the past, many customers were concerned about the service system as Infiniti only had a dealership and service center in Ho Chi Minh City. However, this has been partially addressed as the luxury brand has expanded its presence to Hanoi. The quality of the product has been proven, and with effective public relations efforts, Infiniti may reach out to even more Vietnamese consumers.
