The Go Far with Zero Worries journey commenced on November 20th in Singapore, with a team of 5 IONIQ 5 vehicles traversing through 5 countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, and concluding in Vietnam. The team was accompanied by 3 support vehicles, including the Hyundai Staria MPV and the familiar Hyundai Creta B-SUV.

The choice of the IONIQ 5 model as the symbol of this expedition was due to its versatility as an SUV. The journey transversed countries with diverse operating conditions and transportation infrastructures. Additionally, the utilization of electric cars to complete a cross-country adventure conveys Hyundai Motor’s commitment to sustainable development with green and renewable energy sources, thus contributing to environmental conservation.

Built on Hyundai Motor’s global electric vehicle platform E-GMP, the IONIQ 5 boasts a powerful drivetrain and modern features that facilitate conquering the 2,751km route. The IONIQ 5 convoy consists of 2 AWD vehicles equipped with 2 electric motors each, providing a total output of up to 320 horsepower. The remaining 3 vehicles utilize a RWD drivetrain with 1 rear-mounted electric motor producing 217 horsepower. With a range of over 450km per charge and the stability of the control software, the convoy encountered no charging issues during the journey, even in instances where charging stations were not readily available. Therefore, each team member experienced unique and captivating moments amidst the enchanting landscapes in the countries traveled through.

The IONIQ 5 also boasts a unique feature known as V2L (Vehicle to Load), which provides up to 3,600W of power to electrical devices. Leveraging this feature, the IONIQ 5 Asean Tour team was able to organize a party complete with audio, lighting, and cooking appliances powered by their own vehicles.

In addition, the IONIQ 5 is equipped with the V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) feature, enabling the supply of power to another vehicle through its own energy source. This capability allows the IONIQ 5 to “rescue” another IONIQ 5 or any vehicle with the identical charging standard that has run out of battery or forgotten to charge. With a maximum power output of 70 kW, the rescue operation takes only a few minutes, providing the rescued vehicle with enough energy to travel several dozen kilometers to the nearest charging point for a full recharge.

Fitra Eri, a professional racer from Indonesia and an IONIQ 5 owner, remarked, “The IONIQ 5 is a reliable car. After covering nearly 3,000km across 5 countries, the car instills in me a sense of security with its robust and comfortable suspension system. The car possesses a powerful energy system along with beneficial driver assistance features. I particularly appreciate the car’s energy management capability. Apart from supplying power to 110-220V electrical devices, the car can also provide reverse charging assistance to other vehicles. This feature is genuinely useful.”

Teo Swee Hwang, a member of the Automobile Association of Singapore (AAS), shared, “Upon receiving the invitation to join this expedition, my initial thought was that it would be exceptionally challenging due to the limited electric vehicle charging infrastructure, especially in developed countries, let alone in other developing nations. However, by participating in this journey, I discovered the reliability of the IONIQ 5. With its energy-sharing capabilities, the IONIQ 5 allows me to personally prepare meals for the team members. This is something I never expected to accomplish with my own car.”

Bich Thuy, one of the first IONIQ 5 owners in Vietnam, expressed, “As one of the initial car owners, I encountered many doubts regarding its daily usability and performance. However, I placed my trust in the reputation of the Hyundai automobile brand and its high-quality products, which have received prestigious awards worldwide. Meeting and interacting with international friends who also own the car has bolstered my confidence in the IONIQ 5, affirming the correctness of my decision.”

The IONIQ 5 represents the inaugural vehicle under Hyundai Motor’s newly established IONIQ brand. The car has garnered high praise from both the community and industry professionals for its unique design and impeccable finish. Notably, the IONIQ 5 was awarded the prestigious World Car of the Year 2022 (WCOTY 2022). In Vietnam, the IONIQ 5 is manufactured and distributed with a rear-wheel drive system, offering battery options of either 58 kWh for a range of 384km or 72.6 kWh for a range of 450km. The vehicle is fully equipped with features ensuring operational efficiency, entertainment, and safety, including the Hyundai SmartSense package. The car is offered in 2 versions: IONIQ 5 Exclusive priced at 1.3 billion VND and IONIQ 5 Prestige priced at 1.45 billion VND. Both versions come with a 5-year or 100,000km warranty, whichever comes first. The battery pack is backed by a separate warranty of 8 years or 160,000km, whichever comes first. Currently, customers who purchase the IONIQ 5 from Hyundai Thanh Cong will receive a complimentary 7.7kW home charging box from the ABB brand.
