Recently, Toyota has filed a trademark for a new model at the European Union Intellectual Property Office, according to a post on the Lexus RX forum.
The information discloses that this model is called HZ, with 3 variants: HZ300e, HZ450e, and HZ550e. It is highly likely that the car will carry the Lexus logo, as this is a naming convention commonly seen on luxury models of this brand.
Similar to many competing rivals, Lexus is moving towards electrification. They have plans to offer an electric option for all of their models by 2030 and aim to become a fully electric brand by 2035. Earlier this year, Lexus filed trademark applications for the names TZ450e and TZ550e for a larger, 3-row electric SUV that will be positioned above the RZ. Alongside the HZ, this model is expected to be placed below the RZ in Lexus’ product lineup.
The naming convention of HZ suggests that this model will have at least 3 versions, each with a different powertrain configuration. The current Lexus RZ450e is equipped with a dual-motor electric system that generates 309 horsepower and 435 Nm of torque. It is reasonable to assume that the HZ450e will feature the same powertrain. Therefore, it can be speculated that the HZ300e will be equipped with a single electric motor, while the HZ550e will have a power output of up to 400 horsepower.
Last month, Lexus showcased a preview of the LF-ZC at the 2023 Tokyo Auto Show. The LF-ZC is a midsize SUV coupe that competes with the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4. During the event, Lexus announced that this model will be manufactured using the same die-casting method as Tesla and will utilize a new prism-shaped battery technology, which significantly improves the driving range while reducing weight.
