In the Vietnamese market, luxury license plates valued at billions of Vietnamese dong are equivalent to luxury cars.
Vietnamese billionaires consider luxury license plates as a status symbol to showcase their “class”. These billionaires not only successfully bid for these fancy license plates such as VIP, quadruplets, or quints, but they also immediately install them on their special cars, significantly increasing the value of their vehicles.
One of the examples is a Toyota Crown with the license plate 51K-888.88
On September 15, the license plate 51K-888.88 was auctioned for a staggering price of VND 32.34 billion by the Vietnamese Auction Joint Stock Company. However, the auction winner failed to fulfill their financial obligations. Consequently, the license plate was re-auctioned on October 21 and sold for over VND 15.26 billion.
The owner of the license plate 51K-888.88 affixed it to their “Minister’s car” Toyota Crown. This Toyota Crown is approximately 30 years old and currently valued at around VND 1.5 billion.
Since the 1990s, this particular car model has been imported to Vietnam to serve high-ranking government officials and is affectionately known as the “Minister’s car”.
Another example is a Rolls-Royce Cullinan with the license plate 30K-555.55
In the auction held on November 4, the license plate 30K-555.55 fetched VND 14.495 billion. This license plate was previously auctioned for VND 14.12 billion on September 15, but the bidder failed to fulfill their financial obligations.
After successfully winning the auction for the license plate 30K-555.55, the owner chose to put it on their Rolls-Royce Cullinan, a luxury car that costs between VND 32 billion and VND 45 billion in the Vietnamese market, depending on the specifications and the license plate it carries. With this exclusive VIP plate, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan in this article could potentially become the most expensive car in Vietnam.
Similarly, a Lexus RX 350 with the license plate 36A-999.99
The license plate 36A-999.99 was auctioned for the second time on October 25 by the Vietnamese Auction Joint Stock Company (VPA). After an hour of bidding, the license plate with the number 9 quints and the provincial code of Thanh Hoa was sold to a female billionaire for a record price of VND 5.28 billion.
Previously, this license plate was auctioned for VND 7.47 billion on September 15, but the bidder did not fulfill their financial obligations.
Following the successful bid for the license plate 36A-999.99, the female owner affixed it to her new luxury SUV, the Lexus RX 350. In the Vietnamese market, the Lexus RX350 2023 is currently priced at approximately VND 3.43 billion.
Another example is a Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica with the license plate 51K-899.99
In the September 25 auction, the license plate 51K-899.99 sold for VND 2.74 billion. After a little over a month, the VIP license plate found its owner, and it was affixed to a Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica, which has an official price range of VND 19 billion. Considering the options and the cost of the license plate, the estimated value of this car could be nearly VND 23 billion.
Lastly, a Lamborghini Urus S with the license plate 30K-399.99
The license plate 30K-399.99 was auctioned online by the Vietnamese Auction Joint Stock Company on September 26, 2023. After an intense one-hour bidding session, the license plate with the 9 quints and the Hanoi area code was sold for VND 2.725 billion.
After successfully winning the auction, the license plate with the 9 quints was affixed to a unique car, the Lamborghini Urus S. In the Vietnamese market, this super SUV is officially distributed and sold with a price starting from VND 14.3 billion.
An owner of a Mercedes-AMG G63 with the license plate 30K-444.44 earned a significant profit.
The license plate 30K-444.44 was auctioned for VND 245 million in the auction held on November 7. Previously, this license plate was successfully auctioned for VND 1.62 billion on October 4, but the winning bidder withdrew their bid.
Reportedly, the new owner of this license plate sold it to someone else for over VND 1 billion, making a profit of more than VND 700 million, which is equivalent to the price of a mid-range new car today.
The new owner of this license plate owns several large spas and beauty salons in Hanoi. They have completed the registration procedures and affixed the license plate to their luxury SUV, the Mercedes-AMG G63 2023. In the Vietnamese market, the Mercedes-AMG G63 2023 has a retail price of up to VND 11.7 billion.
