After a long “teaser” campaign, Mazda has finally introduced the all-new 2024 CX-90 SUV for the North American market. Boasting Mazda’s most powerful gasoline engine ever produced, as well as a powerful plug-in hybrid drivetrain with a touch of Japanese aesthetics, this SUV is set to rival its competitors in the luxury segment.

As previously announced by the Japanese automaker, the engine options will start with a turbocharged 3.3L inline 6-cylinder engine combined with mild-hybrid technology, delivering an impressive 340 horsepower and a maximum torque of 500 Nm. According to Mazda, this powertrain provides the CX-90 with a premium driving experience and smoother performance.

On the other hand, the plug-in hybrid variant is based on a 2.5L inline 4-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor and a 17.8 kWh battery pack.

While the specific details regarding electric range and charging time have not been disclosed yet, Mazda has confirmed that the plug-in hybrid drivetrain will provide a combined output of 323 horsepower and a maximum torque of 500 Nm. The power is transmitted through Mazda’s 8-speed automatic transmission, which is specially designed for electrified vehicles on a large platform, ensuring smooth acceleration and improved fuel efficiency.

Regardless of the chosen engine type, Mazda highlights that the CX-90 has been engineered to deliver most of the power to the rear wheels. With the Kinetic Posture Control (KPC) system, initially developed for the Mazda MX-5 Miata, this new SUV offers enhanced stability during high-speed cornering.

In addition to advanced technologies, Mazda has also focused on optimizing the platform with improved rigidity, refined seating, and suspension systems to ensure enhanced balance and control. As an SUV, the CX-90 will feature all-wheel drive as well.

Inside the cabin, Mazda has equipped the spacious SUV with a 12.3-inch center screen and a “See-Through View” display, assisting the driver during parking maneuvers. USB-C charging ports will be available for all occupants, including those in the rear seats.

In terms of design, Mazda infused Japanese elements throughout the interior, employing leather, wood, and fabric materials that harmonize seamlessly. The same philosophy extends to the exterior design.

Featuring elegant curves and minimal rigid lines, the body of the CX-90 seemingly transforms its appearance based on the angle of light.

The Mazda CX-90 is finished in the new Artisan Red Premium paint, a shade darker than Mazda’s signature Soul Red, accentuating the body’s lines.

Completing the SUV’s distinctive style are 21-inch diamond-cut wheels with a black metal finish.

Additional information regarding range, fuel efficiency, and pricing will be disclosed in the near future. The 2024 Mazda CX-90 is anticipated to arrive at North American dealerships this spring.
