Mercedes-AMG SL 43 Convertible Sports Car Launches in Vietnam: Price Starts at 6.959 billion VND

Both models will be brought to the Vietnamese market in extremely limited quantities.

Considered as the new icon of convertible sports cars, the Mercedes-AMG SL 43 will have an announced price of 6.959 billion VND. Currently, the car has arrived in Vietnam and is ready to be delivered to customers in November 2023.

As one of Mercedes-Benz’s oldest sports car models, the convertible Mercedes-AMG SL is considered a great monument in the world of speed enthusiasts. Not only does it have a long history of impressive success, but the Mercedes-AMG SL is currently leaving a strong mark on the international automotive market, thanks to its spectacular comeback with impressive 2+2 Roadster models.

EXCITING DRIVING EXPERIENCE – POWERFUL AND FAST

Underneath the hood of the SL 43 2+2-seater Roadster is a 2L inline-4-cylinder gasoline engine with a new 48V mild-hybrid technology, assembled according to the philosophy of “One man, One engine”.

The engine system on the SL 43 is a direct inheritance from the successful development process used by the F1 Mercedes-AMG Petronas Racing Team for many years in top sports car racing. The improvement in turbocharging ensures quick response throughout the entire RPM range, thereby enhancing the car’s performance and delivering an exhilarating and sporty driving experience.

In previous compact Mercedes-AMG models, the inline-4-cylinder M139 engine without an electric exhaust turbocharger system was transversely mounted. However, in the SL 43, the M139 engine is longitudinally mounted.

SL 43 possesses remarkable driving performance with the ability to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds, with a top speed of 275km/h. In addition to its performance, this SL model also stands out with its relatively low fuel consumption and emission levels.

The AMG DYNAMIC SELECT control cluster is equipped with 6 driving modes, including “Slippery,” “Comfort,” “Sport,” “Sport+,” “Individual,” and “Race,” allowing drivers to fully experience a range of driving sensations from comfort to dynamic on the SL 43. Each mode can also be precisely adjusted to different driving conditions, providing a personalized driving experience.

In addition, the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package combines high-performance components to provide the ultimate experience for drivers. The electronic rear differential lock helps distribute the necessary torque to the wheels more timely and accurately when cornering and accelerating, ensuring maximum road grip.

In the “Race” driving mode, the track performance is pushed to the maximum with just the press of a button, with a more immediate engine response and a more direct throttle characteristic. Drivers can choose this driving mode as an additional driving mode through the characteristic button cluster for AMG models. As standard, the SL 43 is equipped with the new AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension system with specially powerful aluminum shock absorbers and lightweight coil springs. The new SL is the first commercial vehicle from Mercedes-AMG to feature a fully integrated 5-link front suspension. This significantly improves dynamics.

EXTERIOR – DISTINCTIVE CONVERTIBLE SPORTS CAR

The new SL model of the R232 series developed by Mercedes-AMG is based on a completely new structure. The concept of a 2+2 seating arrangement was first applied in 1989 to the Mercedes SL series R129. This arrangement makes the new SL more versatile. The rear seats are optimized for everyday use. If the rear seats are not used, a wind deflector can be installed to protect the front seat occupants from the wind or they can be used as a convenient storage space, by utilizing the space for neat storage of a golf bag, for example.

Mercedes AMG SL 43 is equipped with two available exterior design packages – AMG Night Package and AMG Night Package II, helping create a sharper, more elegant, and dynamic appearance. The AMG Night Package exterior design package contains black-finished details, creating prominent highlights, such as the front splitter, side sills, mirror caps, and decorative trim in the rear bumper. Additionally, the tailpipe trims are made darker. Depending on the selected paint finish, this will create either striking contrasting highlights or smooth transitions. The AMG Night Package II exterior design package will add more black-finished details, including the characteristic AMG grille painted in black, and the Mercedes-Benz star emblem and logo at the rear.

Highlighted features of the SL’s design include its long wheelbase, short wheel overhangs (front and rear), long hood, further set-back passenger compartment with a steeply raked windshield, and a powerful rear end design. These details create the characteristic proportions of the SL, providing a strong and dynamic appearance for the roadster. The SL 43 is equipped with optimized aerodynamic 20-inch alloy wheels with double-spoke design, helping to reduce air resistance.

The decision to make the new SL more athletic led to the use of an electrically-adjustable soft top instead of a metal roof, as in the past. This reduced weight by 21 kg and lowered the center of gravity, positively affecting the handling and driving capability. The folding mechanism in a Z-shape allows space-saving and weight-saving. At the same time, engineers had to ensure high suitability for everyday use and a smooth and standard-compliant operating noise level. The three-layer construction consists of a tightly drawn outer shell, a precisely finished hood lining, and an acoustically effective fleece made of high-quality 450g/m2 PES, which is inserted between them.

Opening and closing takes only about 15 seconds and can be performed at speeds of up to 60 km/h. The black soft top with rear window heating function is operated either by a switch in the center console or the touchscreen media display, on which a dynamic image shows how the process is progressing.

“HYPERANALOG” INTERIOR – THE MARK OF A LUXURIOUS SPORTS WORLD

The interior of the new Mercedes-AMG SL 43 convertible is a perfect combination of analog geometry and the digital world, called “Hyperanalog.” This is reflected in the digital instrument cluster integrated into the 3D glass panel.

The new MBUX infotainment system generation with an 11.9-inch center touchscreen display provides various specific display styles and different operating modes. The digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel with a 12.3-inch color screen is designed like a powerful airfoil integrated into a high-tech panel to prevent reflections caused by sunlight, enhancing the sporty impression of the cockpit, shaping a premium experience.

To prevent annoying reflections from different sun positions when the soft top is open, the tilt of the touchscreen on the center console can also be electrically adjusted from 12 degrees to 32 degrees.

The SL 43, as an original sports car, pays great attention to the smallest details in the driver’s area to enhance the special experience for customers. The steering wheel is the most inspiring place for the driver, so this detail is always favored by the brand, featuring a 3-spoke AMG Performance sports design wrapped in premium nappa leather, integrating touch-sensitive control buttons, adding a more sporty, personality, and agile driving experience. In addition, the AMG Performance seats for the driver and front passenger with special designs and robust materials provide a firm grip, enhancing the high-speed driving experience. These special seats are upholstered in nappa leather and DINAMICA microfiber with yellow or red decorative stitching, making the interior space vividly express the unique personality of the owner.

The top-class sports experience does not stop with the external factors. The Mercedes-AMG SL 43 is also equipped with a range of important features such as the AMG Real Performance Sound system and the AMG Track Pace simulation function.

In which, the AMG Real Performance Sound system brings a superior sound experience. The racetrack will be more emotional, and drivers can even decide how the sound of the turbocharged engine will be when sitting in the car. The selection between the standard sporty engine sound (BALANCED) or the powerful, exhilarating exhaust sound (POWERFUL) is operated by a simple button.
