After sharing some information about the Mercedes-Benz EQG offroad SUV model on X (Twitter) on November 13, the CEO of the German car company personally took the new car out for testing to verify its performance.

In the shared video, CEO Ola Kallenius and project manager Fabian Schossau put the Mercedes-Benz EQG to the test on rugged roads, rocky areas, and steep slopes to demonstrate its offroad capabilities, which are on par with the “big brother” G-Class.

In addition, the two executives also experienced a special feature called G-Turn, which allows the car to make a 360-degree turn in place. This feature will be useful in situations where the owner needs to maneuver in tight spaces.

The Mercedes-Benz EQG electric model still utilizes the basic ladder frame like the regular G-Class, but it will be equipped with 4 electric motors to control the traction transmitted to each individual wheel, allowing it to adapt to different terrain conditions.

The car is also equipped with a double-wishbone suspension system both at the front and rear. The battery system placed under the floor is protected by a steel shell combined with a layer of impact-resistant polymer made from carbon fiber composite.

In addition to the usual driving modes such as Eco, Sport, and Comfort, the EQG also offers special driving modes such as Trail, Rock, and Sand, as well as a hill-climbing mode for handling offroad terrains with pre-set speeds.

The Mercedes-Benz EQG was first introduced as a concept at the 2022 Munich Motor Show. In terms of design, the EQG is almost identical to the G-Class, except for the closed front grille and square-shaped wheel arches. Furthermore, the EQG also incorporates some aerodynamic details such as special forged rims and small air vents on the rear fenders.

In terms of the interior, the EQG’s cabin bears many similarities to the “big brother” G-Class. However, the car still showcases some unique details such as the steering wheel design, gear lever, and layout of the central control cluster.
