Mitsubishi Triton PHEV offers an alternative solution for those who prefer not to use diesel engines.
According to Carsales, Mitsubishi is currently developing a hybrid electric version of the Triton. The company clarifies that the engine used in the Triton is not the same as the one used in the Outlander PHEV. Unlike the SUV model from the same brand, which features a transverse hybrid system, the Triton adopts a longitudinal engine setup, similar to Range Rover and Jeep.
Kaoru Sawase, a senior engineer at Mitsubishi, has mentioned that the Triton will come equipped with a P2 PHEV system, with the electric motor positioned between the gasoline engine and the transmission.
Regarding the all-electric version of the Mitsubishi Triton, Sawase stated that it won’t be launched for at least 5 years. The engineer explained that Mitsubishi’s current electric engines can generate high power, but they have limitations in terms of providing a continuous and stable power output.
When it comes to off-road performance, especially in challenging hilly terrains, a vehicle needs to possess strong and stable power. However, it should be noted that this limitation is specific to Mitsubishi, as companies like Ford, Tesla, Chevrolet, RAM, and Rivian have demonstrated that electric pickup trucks can perform just as well as their traditional counterparts.
In Vietnam, the Mitsubishi Triton is currently available in three different versions, with prices ranging from 650 to 905 million VND.
The Mitsubishi Triton is currently the second best-selling model in the pickup truck segment in the country. In the first 9 months of 2023, this model achieved a cumulative sales figure of 1,566 units. Meanwhile, the “Pickup Truck King” Ford Ranger took the number one spot with 11,235 units sold.
