MPV Sales Chart November 2023 (in units)

Mitsubishi Xpander: 1,467 units

November 2023 continued to be a successful month for the small-size MPV Mitsubishi Xpander as it achieved sales of 1,467 units, a growth rate of 14.8%. With this result, the Mitsubishi Xpander securely held the number 1 position in the MPV segment while also standing at number 4 in the overall market. Since the beginning of the year, Vietnamese consumers have purchased 16,931 units of this MPV. There is a high probability that the Mitsubishi Xpander will be the best-selling model in the overall market in 2023.

Mitsubishi Xpander

It is no surprise that the Mitsubishi Xpander is in high demand in Vietnam. This model combines attractive features for Vietnamese consumers such as reasonable prices (ranging from 560 to 698 million VND for 4 different versions), eye-catching design, spacious 7-seater interior, convenient and safe equipment, and fuel-efficient engines. Additionally, the numerous official promotions in recent months have helped maintain the attractiveness of the Mitsubishi Xpander.

The Mitsubishi Xpander uses a 4-cylinder, 16-valve, 1.5L petrol engine that delivers a maximum power of 105 horsepower and a peak torque of 141 Nm. The engine is paired with a front-wheel-drive system and a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission.

Toyota Veloz Cross: 1,116 units

In November, the Toyota Veloz Cross saw impressive growth. This Japanese MPV achieved sales of 1,116 units, triple the previous month. As a result, the Toyota Veloz Cross rose to the second position in the segment. This result may be partly due to the 100% registration fee exemption program that Toyota Vietnam applied to Veloz Cross in November 2023.

Toyota Veloz Cross

In addition to its reputable brand, the Toyota Veloz Cross convinces Vietnamese consumers with a rugged SUV-like MPV design, abundant features in the segment, and a fair price range of 658 to 698 million VND for 2 versions. Standout features of this Toyota model include the Toyota Safety Sense active safety package, automatic air conditioning, electronic parking brake, 9-inch infotainment screen, LED headlights, etc.

The Toyota Veloz Cross uses a 4-cylinder, 1.5L petrol engine that produces a maximum power of 105 horsepower and a peak torque of 138 Nm. It is equipped with a CVT transmission.

Kia Carnival: 550 units

The 3rd best-selling MPV in Vietnam in November 2023 was the Kia Carnival with sales of 550 units, a 5.3% increase. This is a fairly impressive result for a luxury MPV like the Kia Carnival. In total, this model from South Korea has achieved sales of 4,827 units since the beginning of the year, which is quite high in the segment.

Kia Carnival

Priced from 1.209 to 1.834 billion VND, the Kia Carnival is one of the few large-size MPVs available in Vietnam. The strength of this model lies in its sporty design, spacious interior, and many convenient and safe features.

The Kia Carnival in Vietnam currently has 2 engine options. The first is a 2.2L Smartstream diesel engine that delivers a maximum power of 199 horsepower and a peak torque of 440 Nm, used for 4 low-end versions. On the other hand, the top-of-the-line version uses a 3.5L Smartstream V6 petrol engine with 268 horsepower and 331 Nm of torque, combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Honda BR-V: 544 units

Similar to the aforementioned models, the Honda BR-V also experienced positive growth in November. This model achieved sales of 544 units, a 16.2% increase. This figure contributes to the cumulative sales of the Honda BR-V in 2023, totaling 2,341 units.

Honda BR-V

In the small-size MPV segment in Vietnam, the Honda BR-V is not the cheapest option, with prices ranging from 661 to 705 million VND for 2 versions. However, the Honda model possesses an attractive SUV-like MPV design and modern safety features. It is equipped with the Honda Sensing active safety package, including 6 features: collision mitigation braking system (CMBS), automatic high beam (AHB), adaptive cruise control (ACC), road departure mitigation (RDM), lane keeping assist (LKAS), and low-speed follow (LS3). The top variant also includes 6 airbags and the Honda LaneWatch blind-spot monitoring system.

The Honda BR-V also boasts a powerful engine in the segment. Under the hood is a 1.5L i-VTEC 4-cylinder petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 119 horsepower and a peak torque of 145 Nm. The engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a 5-speed manual transmission, while the front-wheel drive system is a standard feature.

Hyundai Custin: 529 units

The Hyundai Custin was introduced in Vietnam in September this year and has quickly achieved success. In November, this Korean MPV achieved sales of 529 units, a 63.2% increase. Not only outselling its sibling Stargazer, but the Hyundai Custin also surpassed its direct competitor, the Toyota Innova Cross.

Hyundai Custin

Unlike the Toyota Innova Cross, the Hyundai Custin is assembled locally, allowing it to enjoy a 50% registration fee exemption from the government. In addition, this model has a significant advantage in terms of size and equipment compared to the Toyota Innova Cross. The Hyundai Custin is equipped with LED lights, 17 – 18-inch alloy wheels, power sliding side/rear doors, power-adjustable/heated/ventilated front seats, a 10.4-inch center touchscreen, 6 speakers, electronic parking brake, rear sunshades, automatic air conditioning with rear air vents, and charging ports for all 3 rows.

Under the hood of the Hyundai Custin in Vietnam are two engine options. The first is a 2.0L Turbo GDi petrol engine that produces a maximum power of 236 horsepower and a peak torque of 353 Nm. The second option is a 1.5L Turbo GDi petrol engine, which generates a maximum power of 170 horsepower and a peak torque of 253 Nm. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a front-wheel drive system (FWD).

Toyota Avanza Premio: 445 units

Similar to the Veloz Cross, the Toyota Avanza Premio also saw an increase in sales in November 2023. There were 445 units of the Toyota Avanza Premio sold, a growth rate of 75.8%.

Toyota Avanza Premio

Compared to the Veloz Cross, the Toyota Avanza Premio tends to have lower sales despite its lower price range, starting from 558 to 598 million VND for 2 versions. The reason is that the Avanza Premio has a less impressive design and equipment.

The “heart” of the Toyota Avanza Premio is a 4-cylinder, 1.5L petrol engine that delivers a maximum power of 105 horsepower and a peak torque of 138 Nm. Depending on the variant, the vehicle comes with a manual or CVT transmission, while the front-wheel drive system is a standard feature.

Hyundai Stargazer: 355 units

The Hyundai Stargazer is a rare MPV that experienced a decrease in sales in November 2023. This model only achieved sales of 355 units, a 28.2% decrease compared to October 2023.

Hyundai Stargazer

The Hyundai Stargazer is imported and therefore does not enjoy the 50% registration fee exemption from the government. In addition, this model has a design that not many Vietnamese consumers find appealing.

For those who are not concerned with appearance but focus on equipment, the Hyundai Stargazer is a decent choice. The vehicle is equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen with a rearview camera, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, remote engine start, wireless phone charging, an 8-speaker Bose sound system with an external amplifier, automatic air conditioning, adaptive cruise control, and the Hyundai SmartSense active safety package.

The Hyundai Stargazer uses a 1.5L Smartstream G petrol engine that produces a maximum power of 113 horsepower and a peak torque of 144 Nm. It is combined with an iVT continuously variable transmission and a front-wheel drive system.

In Vietnam, the Hyundai Stargazer has 4 versions and a price range from 575 to 685 million VND. However, the actual selling price at dealerships is much lower.

Kia Carens: 337 units

Similar to the Hyundai Stargazer, the Kia Carens had a less successful month in November, with sales decreasing by 14.8% to 337 units. Cumulatively, this MPV has reached sales of 3,325 units since the beginning of the year, even lower than the Kia Carnival despite being cheaper by half.

Kia Carens

The Kia Carens is priced from 589 to 859 million VND, which is relatively high in the small-size MPV segment. However, the vehicle scores points with its SUV-style design, rare 6-seat interior in the segment, and many convenient features such as leather seats, a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, 8 Bose speakers, and a sunroof.

In addition to various versions, the Kia Carens also offers different engine options. Specifically, the model uses a naturally aspirated 1.5L petrol engine, a turbocharged 1.4L petrol engine, and a 1.5L diesel engine. The vehicle is available with a manual transmission, a 6-speed automatic transmission, a continuously variable transmission (iVT), and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Toyota Innova Cross: 162 units

Although the Innova Cross has been launched, the previous generation Toyota Innova is still being sold in the market. In November 2023, this model achieved sales of 162 units, a 13.2% increase. While the growth rate was positive, the Toyota Innova Cross still ranks at the bottom of the MPV segment in terms of sales, trailing far behind the Hyundai Custin.

Toyota Innova Cross

Compared to the Hyundai Custin, the Toyota Innova Cross has a lower starting price range, ranging from 810 to 990 million VND. The vehicle features LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch multi-information display in the instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch center touchscreen, wireless smartphone connectivity, automatic air conditioning, electronic parking brake, auto hold, and a power tailgate.

Under the hood of the 2024 Toyota Innova Cross in Vietnam are 2 engine options. The petrol variant uses a 4-cylinder, 2.0L engine with a maximum power of 172 horsepower and a peak torque of 205 Nm. The hybrid variant combines a petrol engine with a maximum power of 150 horsepower and a strong electric motor with 111 horsepower, paired with a CVT.

The Toyota Innova Cross is imported from Indonesia instead of being locally assembled like the previous generation Innova.

Suzuki XL7: 152 units

In November 2023, the Suzuki XL7 saw a slight growth rate of 6.29%, with sales reaching 152 units. This figure is insufficient to improve the position of this Japanese MPV in the Vietnamese MPV segment.

Suzuki XL7

Compared to its competitors in the segment, the Suzuki XL7 has disadvantages in terms of equipment and safety features. The vehicle is equipped with ABS, hill start assist, electronic stability control, a rearview camera, and 2 airbags.

The highlight of the Suzuki XL7 lies in its durable and fuel-efficient engine. This 4-cylinder, 1.5L petrol engine produces a maximum power of 103 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 138 Nm. It is paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The Suzuki XL7 is priced from 599.9 to 639.9 million VND.

Suzuki Ertiga: 121 units

Similarly to the XL7, the Suzuki Ertiga also experienced a slight increase in sales in November 2023. Sales of this model reached 121 units, a 12% increase. Although not very high, this result is commendable as the Suzuki Ertiga has often been among the least selling models in Vietnam.

Suzuki Ertiga

In recent months, the Suzuki Ertiga has continuously been promoted with discounts worth up to hundreds of millions of VND from the manufacturer. This has been a driving force behind the growth in sales of the vehicle.

Similar to its sibling, the XL7, the Suzuki Ertiga lacks significant equipment and safety features compared to its segment rivals. The vehicle is equipped with the mild-hybrid powertrain with a 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine that delivers a maximum power of 103 horsepower and a peak torque of 138 Nm. The engine is combined with a manual or automatic transmission.

Toyota Innova: 113 units

Although the new generation Innova Cross has been launched, the previous generation Toyota Innova is still being sold. In November, this model achieved sales of 113 units, ranking last in the MPV segment. Sales decreased by 12.4% compared to October 2023.

Toyota Innova

This result is not surprising as the previous generation Toyota Innova has lost its appeal in recent years due to the presence of many cheaper and more attractive small-size MPV models that still meet consumer needs. The starting price of the Toyota Innova is not cheap either, ranging from 755 to 995 million VND.

The Toyota Innova features a 2.0L 4-cylinder petrol engine with a maximum power of 102 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and a peak torque of 183 Nm at 4,000 rpm. It is combined with a 6-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission.
