The Toyota Prius has won the Car of the Year award in Japan with its fresh and modern design.
The 2023 Toyota Prius, which was recently launched, has been awarded the prestigious Car of the Year award in Japan (JCOTY) 2023. This marks the third time that the Prius has secured this honor, outshining competitors such as the BMW X1 and Honda ZR-V by a significant margin.

The list of 10 contenders for the Car of the Year in Japan includes models from various manufacturers. Two German models made it to the list: the BMW X1 and Volkswagen ID.4, ranking 2nd and 9th, respectively. Two Italian models, the Abarth 500e and Maserati Grecale, secured the 8th and 10th positions.
The Car of the Year award in Japan (JCOTY) has been held since 1980, with the Mazda Familia clinching the inaugural award – a compact sedan produced from 1963 to 2003.

According to the announcement, the nominated JCOTY cars must be new or belong to a new generation available in the Japanese market within 12 months, starting from November 1st. The judging panel comprises numerous specialized journalists, YouTubers, freelancers, and professional racers.
