According to our research, the Toyota Hilux trucks owned by Vietnam’s largest supercar collector are equipped with snorkels. However, the specific Toyota Hilux featured in this article has undergone extensive modifications. It now includes a front bumper guard, an electric winch, and a sturdy truck bed frame that caters to transportation needs of tourists.
This Toyota Hilux pickup truck belongs to the sixth generation, which was produced from 1997 to 2005. Its appeal lies in the fact that it represents the last generation of Hilux trucks manufactured in Japan. In 2005, Toyota stopped producing Hilux trucks for the Japanese market, shifting focus to production in Thailand. The sixth-generation Hilux received a minor design update in 1997, introducing additional engine options. Toyota subsequently released an upgraded version of the Hilux pickup truck in 2001.
Compared to the stock version of the sixth-generation Hilux, this Toyota Hilux pickup truck has undergone significant modifications. It features a protruding front bumper guard that resembles armored vehicles. The front bumper guard and side step bar are manufactured by ARB, costing nearly VND 30 million. Additionally, the modified Hilux is equipped with a pair of ARB Intensity round headlights, which amount to over VND 30 million. Lastly, it is equipped with an electric winch from Warn, specifically the XD9000 model with a pulling capacity of up to 4.1 tons. This electric winch alone costs nearly VND 30 million. Considering only the cost of the front-end modifications, the owner has spent VND 100 million.
As one of the preferred pickup trucks for off-road enthusiasts, this fully modified sixth-generation Toyota Hilux pickup truck undoubtedly exemplifies the collection of Vietnam’s largest supercar collector. A set of bed bars was also installed.
The sixth-generation Toyota Hilux offers various engine options, depending on the production year. For instance, from 1998 to 2001, the Hilux ‘Workmate’ model in Australia featured a 2.0L 1RZ-E 8-valve SOHC I4 engine with a 4×2 drivetrain. From 1998 to 1999, a 3.0L 5L diesel I4 engine was available, delivering up to 97 horsepower and offered in both 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrains.
Between 1995 and 2004, the sixth-generation Toyota Hilux pickup trucks were offered with different engine options. These include a 2.4L 2RZ-FE 16-valve DOHC I4 engine, producing 142 horsepower, a 2.7L 3RZ-FE 16-valve DOHC I4 engine yielding 150 horsepower, and a 3.4L 5VZ-FE 24-valve DOHC V6 engine generating 190 horsepower.
