Recently, the first images of the new generation Mazda2 have unexpectedly appeared in Japan. In the land of the rising sun, the Mazda2 is known as the Demio. Thus, the images of the new generation Mazda2 have leaked before its official launch. It is expected that the new Mazda2 will make its debut at the Paris Motor Show 2014 in October.
From the leaked images, it can be seen that the Mazda2 is designed with a similar language to the Hazumi concept car that appeared at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. Both the overall design and individual design details of the new generation Mazda2 are reminiscent of the Hazumi Concept. Of course, the unrealistic and futuristic details such as the aerodynamic kit, large wheels, and exterior mirrors of the Mazda Hazumi Concept have disappeared on the new Mazda2.
The interior design of the new generation Mazda2 is also heavily influenced by the Hazumi Concept. However, the interior space of the 2015 Mazda2 still creates a new and different feeling. The center control panel with a unique touch screen design is reminiscent of a tablet. The driver can control the features on the screen through a rotary knob located next to the handbrake.
Prior to this, Mazda had revealed some information about the powertrain of the new generation Mazda2. Accordingly, the new Mazda2 will widely apply the renowned lightweight and fuel-efficient SkyActiv technology of Mazda. From the lighter new chassis to the two 1.5-liter gasoline and diesel engines, all are products of SkyActiv technology.
Among them, the 1.5-liter gasoline engine is currently used on the new Mazda3. The engine produces a maximum power of 99 horsepower. The corresponding figures for the SkyActiv-D 1.5-liter diesel engine are 105 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 250 Nm at 1,500 – 2,500 rpm. The power is transmitted to the wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Currently, Mazda has not revealed the fuel consumption of the Mazda2. However, if it follows the tradition of the Mazda2 series and the advantages of SkyActiv technology, the fuel consumption will certainly be very low. Meanwhile, the CO2 emissions of the new generation Mazda2 are below 90 g/km.
