Italy is renowned for its picturesque landscapes and remarkable architectural structures, making it a top destination for travelers. When we think of this shoe-shaped country, iconic landmarks such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Roman Square, Roman Colosseum, Vatican City, and Pantheon come to mind.
However, in Conegliano, a small town in northeastern Italy, there is an intriguing and peculiar tourist attraction: a car that has been parked in the same spot for 47 years. This car has captured the attention of both local and international tourists, adding to the town’s charm.
The car, which has remained in the same spot for nearly five decades, has become a renowned tourist attraction in Italy.
The car in question is a 1961 Lancia Fulvia, owned by Angelo Fregolent, a 94-year-old gentleman. Since 1974, the car has been parked in front of Fregolent and his wife Bertilla Modolo’s newsstand. Fregolent, who has been operating the newsstand for the past 40 years, decided to park the Lancia Fulvia in front of the store to facilitate the unloading of newspapers from the car trunk. He humorously refers to the car as his “second wife.”
After retiring, the couple left the car in its designated spot, attracting attention from locals and tourists alike. It has become a popular backdrop for photographs and has gained fame on social media platforms.
The Lancia Fulvia has been a fixture alongside Angelo Fregolent and his wife’s newsstand for the past 47 years.
On October 20th, local authorities made the decision to relocate the car to another location to ensure pedestrian safety and prevent traffic congestion. Currently, Mr. Fregolent’s “car” is on display at the Auto e Moto d’Epoca Motorshow exhibition, where it shares space with numerous other vintage cars.
After the exhibition concludes, the car will undergo repairs and find a permanent home in the garden of the Cerletti Enological school, which is situated across from the Fregolent couple’s residence.
Even Piero Garbellotto, a mayoral candidate in Conegliano, couldn’t resist the allure of this one-of-a-kind car.
The Fulvia model, designed by Piero Castagnero, gained recognition in the world of sports racing after its successful participation in the International Rally Championship in 1972.
