Similar to the Cadillac “The Beast” which is often associated with the image of the US President, the luxury limousine that Chinese President Xi Jinping uses for his overseas trips is called the Hongqi N701.
This is a large sedan created by the Chinese brand Hongqi specifically for the country’s high-ranking leaders. It is reported that the Hongqi N701 is developed based on the L5 model with an extremely limited quantity, primarily used for official state tasks.
During a recent summit between the United States and China, President Joe Biden had a conversation with his counterpart, Xi Jinping. At the end of the meeting, President Biden expressed admiration for President Xi’s high-end limousine, complimenting it as a “beautiful car.” President Xi then briefly introduced and invited the U.S. leader to appreciate the interior space of this luxurious vehicle.
Biden further remarked that the Hongqi N701 is akin to his own Cadillac, famously known as “The Beast.” Due to the importance of these two vehicles, most of the details are not disclosed. However, some leaked information suggests that The Beast is equipped with a turbocharged Duramax 6.6L diesel engine, producing 300 horsepower. President Xi’s presidential limousine is said to feature a turbocharged V12 6.0L engine with a power output of 408 horsepower.
Although both vehicles boast extremely powerful engines, neither can accelerate quickly and consume a significant amount of fuel due to their thick steel armor and modern safety support systems. Carscoops reports that The Beast weighs between 6.8 to 9 tons. The weight of the Hongqi N701 is predicted to be similar, considering the L5 platform alone weighs no less than 3 tons.
