Racing AKA, supported by Mitsubishi Motors Vietnam, is the first professional off-road racing team in Vietnam to compete in the Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR). AXCR is a national rally race for Asian countries and is part of the racing system of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). The event took place from August 10th to 16th, 2019 in Thailand and Myanmar.
AKA, together with Triton, participated in a major Asian competition for the first time. The team aimed to deliver impressive racing performances and gain valuable experience for future domestic and international races, contributing to the off-road racing community in Vietnam.
To meet the FIA standards within just 2 weeks of preparation, AKA’s Triton was upgraded with a suspension system, snorkels, front bumper, cabin roll cage, racing seats, and communication equipment. These enhancements were crucial for competing against experienced teams from Thailand, Japan, and other countries.
The racing teams faced a challenging course, including narrow terrains with mud puddles covering more than half of the wheels, slippery gravel and rocks, deep rivers, heavy rain, and limited visibility in dense forests. The roads were super narrow, allowing only enough space for a pickup truck with swamps on both sides.
During the races, many teams encountered technical issues such as tire punctures, bent rims, broken shocks, broken axle shafts, vehicle body damages, or getting stuck in the mud and needing rescue.
Despite the challenges, Racing AKA successfully completed all 6 races with their Mitsubishi Triton intact. They achieved an impressive overall ranking of 17th out of 34 professional racing teams from various countries. The first Vietnamese rally team with Triton also received the “Special Award” for the most impressive performance at the prestigious podium of the Asia Cross Country Rally 2019.
This international achievement is a source of pride and demonstrates the passion, seriousness, and skills of the Racing AKA team. It provides a solid foundation for the team to pursue even greater ambitions in future domestic and international races.
