Introduced in Vietnam in 2017, the Chevrolet Trax is the second American SUV to enter the B-segment SUV market. However, its initial high price tag of 769 million VND deterred many potential Vietnamese customers, and the model struggled to gain traction.
After a short period of time, the Chevrolet Trax quietly exited the Vietnamese market. However, it has now become an attractive option for those looking for an affordable, spacious, and high-riding SUV. With prices ranging from 380-390 million VND, it offers a significant advantage in the used car market compared to its competitors, the Ford EcoSport and Hyundai Kona.
For buyers with a limited budget, the only option within reach is the EcoSport 2015-2017, which comes with outdated interior and exterior designs and is priced between 320-360 million VND. If they desire a more modern and aesthetically pleasing EcoSport from 2018 onwards, with advanced features and a contemporary interior, they would have to spend at least 450 million VND. Meanwhile, the Hyundai Kona presents an even greater challenge, with the 2018 Kona priced at nearly 500 million VND.
Although the Kona offers many electronic features and conveniences, its interior space is smaller and less spacious compared to the Chevrolet Trax and Ford EcoSport. It also has limited trunk space, making cargo storage inconvenient.
In terms of appearance, the Chevrolet Trax bears a resemblance to its fellow American SUV, the Ford EcoSport. The most notable difference is the absence of a rear-mounted spare tire in the Trax.
The Trax features attractive headlamps with a visually appealing lens design. The interior of the Trax remains attractive and contemporary, even when compared to the current market. However, the My Link infotainment system may not be as eye-catching. It’s important to keep in mind that this is a 6-year-old car.
Under the hood, the 2017 Chevrolet Trax is equipped with a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine that delivers a maximum power output of 140 horsepower at a range of 4,900 – 6,000 rpm, and a maximum torque of 200 Nm at a range of 1,850 – 4,900 rpm. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
While the 2017 Trax lacks advanced active safety systems, it still comes with several basic safety technologies such as electronic stability control (ESC), emergency brake assist (PBA), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), engine drag control (EDC), traction control system (TCS), hill start assist (HSA), hill descent control (HDC), and tire pressure sensors.
Compared to other B-segment SUV models on the market, the Chevrolet Trax may fall short in terms of active safety features. However, it still performs well for basic transportation needs.
Despite being 6 years old, the Chevrolet Trax still maintains a modern appearance. It is tall and spacious enough to accommodate 5 adults comfortably. While it is no longer officially distributed, users can still rely on VinFast service centers or reputable independent garages for maintenance and repairs. However, it’s worth noting that the car’s depreciation value is relatively high.
