The iconic sports car, the Ferrari, formerly owned by French actor Alain Delon, was discovered in 2014 after being “lost” for several decades. Upon its recovery, the vintage Ferrari was swiftly sold at auction for a staggering $23 million.

The Ferrari 250 GT SWB, valued at $23 million, was found on a farm.

This particular Ferrari 250 GT SWB is one of only 36 models ever produced and sold in the market. It was uncovered alongside 60 other classic cars at a farm in western France. Along with the Ferrari 250 GT SWB, the farm housed other remarkable vintage cars, such as Bugatti, Hispano-Suiza, Talbot-Lago, Panhard-Levassor, Maserati, Delahaye, and Delage.

A total of 60 classic cars were unearthed on a farm in western France in 2014.

Some of these cars were sold for three to four times their initial purchase price. For instance, the Maserati parked beside the Ferrari 250 GT SWB on the farm fetched a price of $2 million. However, it was the sheer scarcity of the Ferrari 250 GT SWB and its connection to actors Alain Delon, Shirley MacLaine, and Jane Fonda during the filming of the movie Les Felins in 1964 that ultimately led to its astronomical final selling price.

These cars were originally collected by businessman Roger Baillon during the 1950s to 1970s. Baillon initially had ambitions of restoring the cars to their original glory and showcasing them in a museum. Unfortunately, his business encountered hardships, preventing his dream from materializing. Consequently, Baillon was forced to sell off 50 cars from his personal collection.

Aside from the Ferrari 250 GT SWB, the car collection discovered on the farm also included Bugatti automobiles.

10 years ago, Baillon passed away, leaving his son Jacques to inherit the car collection. Unfortunately, Jacques also passed away last year. Unaware of the true worth of the car collection, Baillon’s grandchildren enlisted the services of appraisers Lamoure and Pierre Novikoff from Artcurial. It is safe to say that they now realize the treasure they were holding in their hands.
