According to the latest sales report, BYD outperformed Tesla by selling 526,409 pure electric vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2023. This remarkable sales figure surpassed Tesla’s sales of 484,507 vehicles.

Throughout the year, BYD delivered a total of 1,574,822 pure electric vehicles to customers, marking a 72.8% increase compared to the same period in 2022.

On the other hand, Tesla saw a 38% increase in pure electric vehicle sales in 2023, reaching a total of 1,808,581 vehicles compared to the previous year.

Although BYD’s annual sales still fell significantly behind Tesla’s, the strong growth in the fourth quarter indicates a major shift in the electric vehicle industry with BYD posing a formidable challenge to Tesla’s dominance.

By the end of 2023, BYD achieved a total sales figure of 3,024,417 vehicles, including both plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles, which represents a 62.3% growth. However, this sales figure still falls significantly short of Tesla’s.

In addition to its success in the electric vehicle sector, BYD made a significant impact in the battery production field in 2023. The company’s new energy vehicle batteries reached a total capacity of 150.909 GWh, positioning BYD as the second-largest player in the electric vehicle battery market after CATL.

In 2024, BYD plans to further expand its production activities and invest in the development of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving systems to enhance its technological capabilities and achieve greater autonomy.
