BYD Achieves Record Sales of 3 Million Vehicles in 2023

Chinese automaker BYD recently announced its remarkable sales achievements in 2023. The company sold a total of 3,024,417 vehicles, including both plug-in hybrid and pure electric vehicles, representing an impressive growth rate of 62.3% compared to the previous year. This figure exceeded BYD’s sales volume in 2022, which was 1,863,494 vehicles. Additionally, BYD’s production for the year reached 3,045,231 vehicles, showing a growth rate of 62.2% compared to the same period last year.

During 2023, BYD focused on strengthening its production capabilities in the passenger car segment, resulting in a sales volume of 3,012,906 vehicles, representing a significant growth rate of 62.2% compared to 2022.

BYD also experienced remarkable growth in the sales of electric vehicles, delivering a total of 1,574,822 vehicles to customers, representing a growth rate of 72.8%.

In the commercial vehicle segment, BYD achieved a sales volume of 11,511 vehicles, including electric buses, trucks, and other vehicles, representing a growth rate of 88.2% compared to the same period last year.

While not as high as electric vehicles, BYD’s plug-in hybrid models also saw a significant increase in sales, reaching a total of 1,438,084 vehicles in 2023, representing a growth rate of 52% compared to 2022.

BYD’s impressive sales were not limited to the domestic market. The company also experienced significant growth in overseas sales, selling a total of 242,766 vehicles in 2023, representing a remarkable increase of 334%.

In addition to vehicle sales, BYD made substantial progress in battery production. The company’s batteries installed in new energy vehicles reached a total capacity of 150,909 GWh in 2023, positioning BYD as the second-largest player in the electric vehicle battery sector, following CATL.

At the beginning of 2023, BYD set an ambitious target of selling 3 million vehicles. Surpassing expectations, the company not only achieved this target but also achieved even higher growth rates. To celebrate this milestone, BYD decided to provide additional benefits to its dealers in China. For each vehicle sold, dealers received 666 NDT (approximately 2.28 million VND).

Looking ahead, BYD plans to focus on development in Japan and Southeast Asia. These regions present opportunities for market penetration and establishing local manufacturing plants to cater to both domestic and export markets.
