BYD, the Chinese car company, recently announced that their Song Plus model has reached the impressive milestone of 800,000 units produced at their assembly plant in Tay An. It is worth noting that the Song Plus was only launched in 2020, so achieving this milestone in just 3 years is remarkable. The Song Plus is part of BYD’s Ocean series.
The BYD Song Plus lineup includes both plug-in hybrid and pure electric models, offering consumers a wide range of choices. He Zhiqi, Senior Vice President and CEO of BYD’s Passenger Vehicle Division, stated, “Ocean represents an innovation in BYD’s sales system, with a focus on creating a younger sales system.”
Zhang Zhuo, General Manager of BYD’s Ocean Network Business Unit, revealed that BYD’s Ocean Network has surpassed 2 million units. In December 2023, the Ocean Network sold 167,963 units, with a cumulative sales figure of over 1.38 million for the year. The Song Plus (DM, EV) sold 50,725 units in December alone, and the total sales for the year reached 427,071 units.
Looking back at the launch of the gasoline-powered Song Plus on September 16, 2020, it was positioned as a compact SUV, meeting the consumers’ demand for space.
In March 25, 2021, the Song Plus DM-i, equipped with DM-i super hybrid technology, made its debut in the market. On April 8 of the same year, the electric version of the Song Plus, equipped with BYD Blade Battery, was also approved for market testing.
In October 2021, BYD celebrated producing the 100,000th Song Plus, and by March 2023, the Song Plus reached the milestone of 500,000 units, taking less than 2 years to achieve. This time, the BYD Song Plus series has surpassed the remarkable milestone of 800,000 units.
To boost sales, BYD introduced a special edition version of the Song Plus. The Song Plus DM-i Champion Edition offers 4 models, with prices ranging from 159,800 to 189,800 yuan. The Song Plus EV Champion Edition also offers 4 models, with prices ranging from 169,800 to 209,800 yuan.
The special edition models feature the new face of the Ocean family, with a more youthful and futuristic design. Additionally, the brand logo on the front of the new car has been changed from “Song” to “BYD”.
In terms of design details, the pure electric models have a closed grille design, while the DM-i models feature a dense nanomaterial air intake design to improve engine compartment cooling.
Furthermore, the configurations have been adjusted and upgraded. The plug-in hybrid version has discontinued the 51 km range option and added a 150 km range version with improved durability. The pure electric version has also introduced a 605 km range option, providing consumers with even more choices.
