Despite belonging to a budget brand from the US, the technology content on the Ford Explorer is “extremely rich”, to the point of easily surpassing a series of luxury models in the same price range.
You can take the Mercedes-Benz GLC; BMW X3 or Audi Q5 as a benchmark for this argument. Because in the Vietnamese market, the Ford Explorer is being distributed by the American brand with only one Limited version, priced at 2.4 billion VND – equivalent to the above-mentioned luxury models.
First and foremost, we have to mention the EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine with a capacity of 2.3L combined with a 10-speed automatic transmission and a full-time 4-wheel drive system on the car. The Ford Explorer can reach maximum power of 300 horsepower and torque of 432 Nm. Users can also customize up to 7 different operating modes – which is superior to the above-mentioned luxury models (which have a dual-boost 2.0L engine and a 7-9 speed gearbox).
Of course, each luxury car brand possesses its own unique operating technology with extremely sophisticated features to improve the driving experience. However, the superior power of the Explorer compared to these models cannot be denied, because Ford itself is also a long-standing manufacturer, holding many technologies no less than German brands. Not to mention that the Explorer itself is also a top product in the business portfolio of the Oval Blue brand.
The next technology that Ford Explorer can “outperform” luxury models is the automatic parking assist feature. Even this feature has been brought down to low-range affordable models like the Ford Focus since 2013 (10 years ago). Yet, until now, high-riding D-size models of “M?c”, “Bim”, or Audi still haven’t been equipped with this feature.
Or the small exterior convenience features, such as: heated and memory side mirrors or smart power opening and closing trunk with anti-pinch feature, self-cleaning rear camera; or especially the touch-sensitive security number row on the B-pillar so that users can open the door into the car without a key – are also things that make the Ford Explorer appear “smarter”.
In terms of smart driving support features, the Explorer is equipped with a “top-notch” Ford Co-Pilot 360 package with the ability to assist steering to avoid collisions and adaptive cruise control. These are outstanding features of the Explorer, while other smart features are also very complete – equivalent to luxury models: forward collision warning and mitigation, blind spot warning combined with automatic braking to avoid crossing vehicles behind; smart headlights; lane-keeping assist…
Next, the interior compartment is where the Ford Explorer can continue to make many luxury models “suffocated” when compared in terms of equipment (although of course, in terms of material or finishing quality, Ford has no chance of “getting a footing” in luxury brands).
The Fullsize SUV from the US is equipped with power-adjustable seats with memory, along with the ability to heat and cool the back; the third-row seats can be electrically folded; electronic knob-type transmission lever; 2 information screens behind the steering wheel and in the middle of the dashboard; an entertainment audio system with up to 12 speakers from the Bang & Olufsen brand; wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto charging and connection, GPS-integrated voice control navigation…
There are many other features that Ford Explorer also surpasses many D-size luxury models currently rolling in Vietnam, but they are not intelligent features so they will be omitted in this article.
That being said, it does not mean that the Ford Explorer surpasses luxury models. Each car carries its own value; and for luxury cars, the user experience and brand value are intangible things but are always carefully counted and prioritized when customers spend money to own them.
