CES is one of the largest consumer electronics and technology exhibitions in the world. In recent years, the exhibition has also become a platform for showcasing the latest technologies from various automakers. The upcoming CES 2024 exhibition, scheduled for next month, is set to continue this trend.

Following in the footsteps of VinFast, Hyundai – the South Korean automobile manufacturer – will also be making its presence felt at the CES 2024 exhibition. Hyundai is all set to unveil its latest concept car, the Mobion, which boasts a unique sideways crab-like movement capability.

Prior to the commencement of the exhibition, Hyundai released a short video teaser of the Mobion concept car. The highlight of this concept car is the revolutionary e-Corner system, developed by Hyundai Mobis – a company specializing in technology and components for Hyundai vehicles.

In fact, Hyundai had previously introduced the e-Corner technology on the Ioniq 5 prototype in early January. The e-Corner system offers three distinct functionalities: Zero Turn, Pivot Turn, and Diagonal Driving. The Diagonal Driving mode allows the wheels to rotate up to 90 degrees, enabling the four wheels to be perpendicular to the car’s body and enabling the car to move sideways in a crab-like manner.

With the Pivot Turn function, the two front wheels remain stationary while the two rear wheels rotate by 90 degrees. This feature enables the car to rotate in a manner similar to a compass.

On the other hand, the Zero Turn mode sees the wheels rotating at a 45-degree angle, with the front wheel facing the opposite direction of the rear wheel. This feature allows the car to make a complete 360-degree turn in place.

In addition to the e-Corner system, the Mobion concept car also boasts the Interaction Lighting system. The Mobion comes equipped with lighting systems that extend from the front of the car to the sides and back. Moreover, sequential lighting strips are present on both the front and rear ends of the vehicle, complete with hidden integrated Mobis logos.

According to Hyundai, the Mobion concept car is not related to the currently available Ioniq 5 electric car or any forthcoming Hyundai models. Instead, the main purpose of the Mobion is to highlight the technological advancements achieved by Hyundai Mobis.

In addition to the Mobion, Hyundai has also introduced its Innovative Transparent Display technology at the CES 2024 exhibition. This unique flip and rotate display employs 3D pop-up images to provide drivers with necessary information without obstructing their view.

According to Mobis, this flip-up transparent display offers a sense of spaciousness that traditional fixed displays fail to deliver. It can be considered as the next step in head-up display (HUD) technology in automotive applications.

Additionally, this display has the capability to magnify images on the windshield, enabling the driver to easily check crucial information such as battery levels. These images are placed within the driver’s line of sight without obstructing their view. Mobis believes that this innovative display technology will revolutionize the interiors of vehicles in the future.

Similarly, VinFast also made its presence felt at the CES 2024 exhibition with its electric pickup truck concept. Furthermore, VinFast showcased the urban electric SUV VF3 and the DrgnFly electric bicycle at the exhibition.
