Lanzante Introduces the Convertible Version of McLaren P1 Supercar
British tuning company, Lanzante, has unveiled the convertible version of the renowned McLaren P1 supercar.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed, the world’s largest annual car culture event, was first held in 1993. This year, enthusiasts will have the opportunity to admire the latest supercars from famous brands such as BMW, Aston Martin, and Bentley during the four-day event (June 23-26).
One of the most anticipated supercars at this year’s event is the McLaren P1 Spider. Although it has been more than 9 years since its debut, this is the first time enthusiasts have had the chance to see up close the McLaren P1 convertible with its captivating curves.
The McLaren P1 Spider is a product from Lanzante, a UK-based tuning company with years of experience working with various McLaren models. Lanzante spent several months planning the design and engine modifications with invaluable support from McLaren P1’s “father” – Paul Howse, in order to create this masterpiece. Only 5 McLaren P1 Spiders will be produced, and the first car is expected to be delivered by the end of this year. Lanzante has not disclosed the cost of producing the McLaren P1 Spider.
Creating the convertible version of the McLaren P1 posed challenges for Lanzante engineers as they had to optimize aerodynamics and ensure the strength of the materials. Carbon fiber panels with new air vents protrude from behind the seats to improve the aerodynamics of the McLaren P1 Spider. Additionally, a floating spoiler surrounding the side of the car allows air to pass through the A-pillars and into the side air vents, providing cooling for the engine.
The most difficult aspect of modifying this car was the air intake scoop located on the hood. On the McLaren P1 and Senna, the air intake scoop is essential for optimal engine cooling. Removing the main intercooler ducts for the McLaren P1’s twin-turbo V8 engine required Lanzante to modify the remaining parts of the car body to redirect air to the engine efficiently.
Another interesting highlight of the McLaren P1 Spider is the transparent engine cover, allowing a clear view of the engine. Lanzante also reinforced the chassis of the McLaren P1 Spider to ensure its rigidity while staying true to the original Monocell frame design.
Lanzante has also updated the interior by reupholstering the seats with different types of leather. Additionally, the cabin has been enhanced with a SuperFainst coating to provide better protection against sunlight and UV rays. The dashboard, functional buttons, gear lever, and many other details are finished with premium carbon fiber and satin fabric.
The McLaren P1 Spider is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, producing a maximum power output of 727 horsepower and a peak torque of 719 Nm. In addition, the sports car is equipped with an electric motor, generating a maximum power of 176 horsepower and a peak torque of 260 Nm. Therefore, the McLaren P1 Spider has a total power output of 903 horsepower and a peak torque of 979 Nm.
With its powerful engine, the original McLaren P1 has a top speed of 350 km/h and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds. Changing the roof and modifying some details of the McLaren P1 Spider may slightly increase the 0-100 km/h acceleration time compared to the standard model.
