Recently, the mid-sized sedan model Mazda6 has been discontinued in major markets such as the US and UK due to low sales. There are rumors that the Mazda6 production line in Japan will also be stopped in 2024, although the specific discontinuation time is not yet known.
It is rumored that the Mazda6 will be the second Mazda model to be discontinued in Japan, following the closure of the Mazda CX-8 production line in December 2023. Despite this, Mazda is still selling the remaining CX-8 models in stock at dealerships.
The decline in sales of family sedans in Japan, driven by the popularity of SUVs, is a common trend in the global market. Toyota has already discontinued the Camry in Japan in 2023 for the same reason. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Mazda6 also disappears from the Japanese market as rumored.
However, these rumors contradict the speculation in September 2023 that the Mazda6 will have a new generation to capitalize on the success of SUV models like the CX-60.
Meanwhile, in the Japanese market, Mazda plans to introduce the Mazda CX-80 to fill the void left by the discontinued CX-8. The CX-80 is part of Mazda’s Large Products lineup, which also includes the CX-60, CX-70, and CX-90. While the CX-80 and CX-60 are mainly targeted at Asia and Europe, the CX-70 and CX-90 are aimed at the North American market.
The CX-60 and CX-90 are already available for purchase, and the CX-70 is scheduled to be unveiled on January 30, 2024. Accidentally leaked information on the Mazda Canada homepage suggests that the CX-70 will be launched soon.
Mazda accidentally leaked the release date of the CX-70
Both the Mazda CX-80 and CX-70 are likely to share engines with the CX-90. The 2024 Mazda CX-70 will offer two engine options, including a 3.3L inline-6 turbocharged gasoline engine with a 48V mild hybrid system. The engine will provide a maximum output of 280 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque in the low-end version, and 340 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque in the high-end version.
Furthermore, the 2024 Mazda CX-70 will also have a gasoline-electric plug-in hybrid powertrain option, similar to the CX-90. While specific details have not been announced, it is expected that the plug-in hybrid version will have a total output of 323 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque.
Honda Accord: 40 Years of Automotive Excellence
Looking at the Vietnamese car market right now and humorously comparing it, we will see Camry as a well-behaved young girl, not outstanding in every aspect but easily becoming the choice of the “other half”. Teana, on the other hand, is like a dignified and tranquil woman, full of courage. Meanwhile, Mazda6 is like a hot girl, quickly attracting and captivating anyone’s gaze from the first encounter. As for Accord – with the elegance and experiences of a U30 lady, even though she is always praised by everyone, she hides something “difficult to deal with” in the minds of the majority.
