On January 2, 2024, the Vietnam Joint Stock Auction Company held an online auction for car license plates after a 3-day break. The first auction of car license plates in 2024 featured many special numbers and unexpected surprises.
Specifically, during the auction session on January 2, 2024, from 08:00 to 08:30, a license plate was sold for 29.43 billion VND, making it the second-highest priced plate in the auction. The highest-priced license plate was 51K-888.88, which was auctioned off for over 32 billion VND in the initial auction. However, the winner failed to provide a down payment, resulting in the plate being auctioned again and sold for 15.265 billion VND to a new winner.
Thus, the biggest surprise in the first car license plate auction of 2024 occurred when the special license plate with the number 6 and starting with 88A reached a bid of 29.43 billion VND, equivalent to the price of a Rolls-Royce Cullinan or multiple brand-new supercars.
If the winning bidder pays the full amount of 29.43 billion VND within the next 15 days, it will be the highest amount ever paid for an auctioned license plate. Previously, another beautiful license plate from Vinh Phuc province was also auctioned off at a high price. Specifically, the license plate 88A-688.88 reached a bid of 3.035 billion VND, equivalent to the price of a BMW X4.
According to regulations, the winning bidder of a car license plate must pay the full auction amount within 15 days of the result announcement. This amount is deducted from the deposit of 40 million VND but does not include the vehicle registration fee. Hence, the winning bidder of license plate 88A-666.66 still needs to pay 29.39 billion VND.
Within 12 months, the winning bidder must register this license plate for a car. If the registration is not completed within the deadline, this beautiful license plate will be transferred to the license plate registration and management system, and the winning bidder will not be refunded the auction amount paid.
