In a surprising development, social media has shared an image of an unidentified SUV with the Ford logo near Notre Dame Cathedral in Ho Chi Minh City. The car features a closed grille with the word “Explorer” spanning across the front, leading many to believe it is the electric Ford Explorer model unveiled by the American automaker in March.

However, the vehicle has a European license plate, suggesting that it might have been temporarily imported to Vietnam for photography and advertising purposes.

Ford Vietnam has not made any official announcements regarding the availability of this model in the country. Although the Ford Explorer EV has already been launched internationally, it is expected to be widely available by mid-2024. Therefore, the chances of it being released in Vietnam are quite slim.

The Ford Explorer EV is the first vehicle from the American automaker to utilize the MEB architecture developed in collaboration with the Volkswagen Group.

In terms of design, the Ford Explorer EV features a robust appearance with sharp lines, a square body, and a muscular and powerful stance, distinguishing it from the ID.4 model.

Prominent design elements on this electric SUV include a “shield”-like closed-off grille, daytime running lights integrated with the word “Explorer” encircling the shield, a U-shaped protective plate, and vertical taillights reminiscent of the regular Explorer model.

The black A-pillars and distinct C-pillars create a floating roof effect, while the alloy wheels come in sizes of 19, 20, and 21 inches, optimized for aerodynamic performance.

Inside the cabin, the Ford Explorer EV boasts a modern design, with the centerpiece being a vertical 15-inch Ford Sync Move touchscreen that can be smoothly adjusted by 30 degrees.

The car is also equipped with a 5-inch digital instrument cluster displaying driving data, battery capacity, and the status of automatic assistive features. Additionally, a convenient haptic touchpad is located below the center screen for controlling audio volume, driving assistance technologies, and more.

Standard convenience features include keyless entry, dual-zone air conditioning, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, and 10-color interior ambient lighting.

Regarding safety equipment, the electric SUV is expected to come with 12 ultrasonic sensors, 5 cameras, and 3 radar devices that provide a 360-degree view of the vehicle’s surroundings, enabling various driver-assist systems. Detailed specifications for the electric Explorer have not been announced by Ford at this time.

According to speculation, the Ford Explorer EV will be available in three different variants: a single-motor drivetrain with 168 horsepower and a range of 351 km, a single-motor drivetrain with 228 horsepower and a range of 539 km, and a dual-motor drivetrain with 335 horsepower and a range of 491 km.
