The MG5 mid-size sedan recently underwent safety testing by the Australian and New Zealand New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

When it was first introduced in Australia, the MG5 received a low rating due to its lack of safety features, including emergency brake assist, ABS brakes, front seatbelt reminders, and only 6 airbags. As a result, the price of the car in Australia is on the lower end, ranging from 24,990 to 28,990 AUD (approximately 407 – 472 million VND).

After undergoing thorough testing to meet the 2023-2025 ANCAP standards, the MG5 received a 0-star rating out of 5 stars. Both the Vibe and Essence versions of the MG5 in the Australian market received this rating.

During the testing process, the MG5 demonstrated a good rating in terms of its stable cabin structure and protection for the driver. It performed well in a full side impact crash at 60km/h and a side impact crash with a rigid pole at 32km/h, simulating crashes with trees and light poles. The MG5 achieved a “Good” or “Adequate” level of protection in these tests.

Out of the 9 car models tested by ANCAP in 2023, besides the MG5 and Mahindra Scorpio receiving a 0-star rating, the rest of the cars achieved the highest 5-star rating. These cars include the BMW Series 5, Kia EV9, Mercedes EQE, Renault Megane E-Tech, Skoda Enyaq, BYD Dolpin, and BYD Seal.

Other organizations, such as Euro NCAP and ASEAN NCAP, have not assessed the MG5’s safety.

In Vietnam, the MG5 was introduced in March 2022. By the end of September, a new version called the New MG5 was introduced. The car is available in three versions: 1.5L MT, 1.5L CVT STD, and 1.5L CVT Delux, priced from 399 million to 459 million to 499 million VND.

Despite being a new model, dealers frequently offer promotions to stimulate sales of the MG5.
