Contrary to the rest of the car market in Vietnam, pickup trucks had a less optimistic sales month in November 2023. Most pickup truck models saw a decline in sales, except for the Toyota Hilux.

Pickup truck sales table for November 2023 (unit: vehicles)

Ford Ranger: 1,463 vehicles

In November 2023, the sales of the Ford Ranger experienced a slight decline of 0.8% to 1,463 vehicles. Despite this, the number is enough to keep the American pickup truck model ahead of its segment competitors and maintain its dominance. Additionally, the Ford Ranger also made it into the top 10 best-selling cars in the market for the month of November.

Ford Ranger

With a year-to-date cumulative sales of 14,173 vehicles, the Ford Ranger secures the first position in the pickup truck segment for an American representative and is assured of a place among the top 10 best-selling cars in the overall market for the year 2023.

The Ford Ranger is currently available in Vietnam in a total of 8 variants, including the Raptor, with prices ranging from 669 million to 1.299 billion VND. Not only diverse in terms of variants, this pickup truck model is also highly regarded for its design and equipment.

Specifically, this pickup truck model features LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, fog lights, a 12-inch center touchscreen display, a 6-speaker sound system, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, wireless phone charging, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, cruise control, active parking assist, rollover prevention, front/rear sensors, a 360-degree camera, and 6 airbags, among others.

Underneath the hood of the Ford Ranger are two 2.0L diesel engine options. Firstly, a single-turbo engine with a maximum output of 167 horsepower and a peak torque of 405 Nm. This engine is available with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Secondly, a twin-turbo engine, which generates a respective power of 207 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Mitsubishi Triton: 220 vehicles

In contrast to the Ford Ranger, the Mitsubishi Triton saw a significant decline in sales in November. Only 220 units were sold, a 51.5% decrease compared to October 2023. However, the Japanese pickup truck model managed to maintain the second position in the pickup truck segment.

Mitsubishi Triton

As the second choice of Vietnamese consumers after the Ford Ranger, the Mitsubishi Triton offers attractive exterior styling and adequate equipment. It is equipped with LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, an analog gauge cluster combined with a small multi-information display, a 6.85-inch center touchscreen display, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, and rear air vents/armrest.

The engine for the Mitsubishi Triton in Vietnam is the MIVEC DI-D Hi-Power diesel engine with a capacity of 2.4L, producing a maximum output of 181 horsepower and a peak torque of 430 Nm. This engine is matched with a 6-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive.

The Mitsubishi Triton is currently priced from 650 million to 905 million VND.

Mazda BT-50: 55 vehicles

The third position in the pickup truck segment continues to belong to the Mazda BT-50 with 55 units sold. The sales of this model decreased by 8.3% compared to October 2023.

Mazda BT-50

Despite having the most attractive prices in the pickup truck segment, ranging from 584 to 644 million VND for 2 variants, the Mazda BT-50 is not the top choice for Vietnamese consumers. Part of the reason is the design of the Mazda BT-50, which is perceived as more feminine and soft, not suitable for a pickup truck.

The “heart” of the Mazda BT-50 is a 4-cylinder, 1.9L diesel engine, producing a maximum output of 150 horsepower and a peak torque of 350 Nm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive.

In addition, the vehicle also features safety equipment such as 7 airbags, a reverse camera, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, front/rear parking sensors, hill descent control, and hill start assist.

Isuzu D-Max: 27 vehicles

The ranking of the pickup truck segment has remained unchanged for a long time, with the Isuzu D-Max consistently standing in the fourth position. In November 2023, the Isuzu D-Max recorded sales of 27 vehicles, a decrease of 44.8%.

Isuzu D-Max

The Isuzu D-Max has relatively low prices in the segment, ranging from 665 to 880 million VND for 3 variants. However, it is less popular due to its design. This pickup truck model is equipped with LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED fog lights, a 4.2-inch multi-information display, a 9-inch center touchscreen display, an 8-speaker sound system, 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, pedestrian detection, rear/front sensors, a 360-degree camera, and 7 airbags.

Under the hood of the Isuzu D-Max is an engine that is identical to the Mazda BT-50.

Toyota Hilux: 9 vehicles

Since its return to the Vietnamese market in March this year, the Toyota Hilux has consistently been the lowest-selling model in the segment. In November 2023, the model sold only 9 vehicles. However, the Toyota Hilux is the only model in the segment that saw an increase in sales, with a growth rate of 125%. Cumulatively, from March to the present, the Toyota Hilux has achieved a total of 127 sales – a very modest figure.

The Toyota Hilux’s lack of attractiveness is due to its high price compared to its equipment. The model comes in two versions: 2.4 4×2 AT and 4×4 AT Adventure, with respective prices of 852 million and 1.077 billion VND.

Toyota Hilux 4×4 AT Adventure

At its highest trim level, the vehicle is equipped with LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, leather seats, an analog gauge cluster with a multi-information display, a 10-inch center touchscreen display, a JBL sound system, and automatic air conditioning with rear vents for passengers.

The Toyota Hilux is powered by two engine options. Firstly, a 2.4L 4-cylinder diesel engine, producing a maximum output of 148 horsepower and a peak torque of 400 Nm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. Secondly, a 2.8L 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, generating a respective power of 201 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and 4-wheel drive.
