At the Vietnam International Motor Show (VIMS) 2016, alongside the collection of supercars and luxury cars, there was a unique exhibit of vintage cars. This exhibit is one of a kind in Vietnam and features notable cars such as the Renault 4CV associated with the spy Pham Xuan An, the 1902 Citroen featured in the movie “The Lover,” and the rare Porsche 550 Spyder.

The organizers of VIMS 2016 revealed that the vintage car exhibit was set up to fill the space originally reserved for Jaguar Land Rover, who withdrew from the show at the last minute.

Undoubtedly, the most famous and attention-grabbing car at the exhibit was the Renault 4CV, which was described as “Pham Xuan An’s spy car.” This model was quite popular in Vietnam during the 1950s to 1970s.

The Renault 4CV made its way to Vietnam after being first introduced at the 33rd Paris Motor Show in October 1946. It even served as a taxi in Vietnam.

A Citroen 1902 with a well-preserved dark red attire stood out from the rest of the vintage cars.

This particular vintage car appeared in the film “The Lover.”

The Citroen 1902 showcased a cream-colored driver’s compartment with many original details restored. This is the second time this vintage car has been exhibited in Vietnam.

The striking Porsche 550 Spyder on display at VIMS 2016 features a light blue exterior paint job.

Worldwide, the Porsche 550 Spyder is associated with the late actor James Byron Dean and some intriguing accidents.

Actor James Dean tragically died in a car accident while driving his Porsche 550 Spyder. His Porsche collided with a Ford coming from the opposite direction and crossed the lane. The accident occurred on September 30, 1955, and resulted in James Dean’s fatal injuries on the way to the hospital.

Afterward, all individuals who purchased James Dean’s Porsche 550 Spyder experienced strange accidents. As a result, many people referred to James Dean’s Porsche 550 Spyder as the “cursed car.”

The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia 1966 is also a rare sight in Vietnam.

As seen, the vintage cars displayed at VIMS 2016 were meticulously preserved by their owners.

The Isetta, a BMW model with an egg-like design, caused a lot of controversy when it was introduced in Turin in October 1953. This car features a unique front-opening door resembling the front of the car.

In Vietnam, there are around 2 BMW Isetta cars owned by collectors. One of these cars appeared at the VIMS 2016 exhibition with a striking orange exterior color that the owner later repainted red.

The Mercedes-Benz 230 SL from the famous SL series made an appearance at VIMS 2016 in the vintage car section. Manufactured for 8 years from 1963, the Mercedes-Benz 230 SL achieved a total sales figure of 48,912 units.

This particular Mercedes-Benz 230 SL model features a convertible soft-top roof. Additionally, a detachable hardtop roof is available that can be manually removed, similar to the popular Chevrolet Corvette C7 Z06 in Vietnam.

Aside from the adult vintage cars, VIMS 2016 also showcased a pair of children’s “racing cars” by Harrington. Among these, the red Ferrari 250 California Spyder grabbed the most attention.

The details on the children’s version of the Ferrari 250 California Spyder closely resemble the original supercar model, which can fetch a price tag of no less than 8 million USD.

Harrington used the letter H as the main logo on the front of the car and the steering wheel of the children’s Ferrari 250 California Spyder, instead of the iconic horse logo.

Although it’s a racing car for children, the Ferrari 250 California Spyder attracted a lot of attention from visitors.

Another racing car for children by Harrington is the F1 Racer.

The F1 Racer features an exposed engine located at the rear. It is powered by a single-cylinder air-cooled engine with a displacement of 120 cc.

The Volkswagen Beetle, also known as the “Beetle,” was one of the most popular cars during its production years from 1938 to 2003. It made a special appearance at VIMS 2016.

Vintage cars, such as the ones displayed at VIMS 2016, showcase the beauty and history of automobile design and culture.
