Hollywood superstar Robert Downey Jr. has accumulated a fortune through his portrayal of the iconic character Iron Man. This success has allowed him to pursue unique ventures off-screen, similar to the nature of the character he embodies.
For his latest automotive acquisition, Robert Downey sought the expertise of SpeedKore, a custom car shop, to add some personal touches to his 1974 BMW 3.0 CS. The outcome is a fusion of contemporary materials and classic European design.
The car features carbon fiber and wood veneer accents.
While maintaining the original metal body of the BMW, SpeedKore incorporated carbon fiber in the front, front bumper, and lower side skirts. Additionally, they equipped the vehicle with custom HRE wheels constructed from gunmetal, complemented by Pirelli P Zero tires and Brembo brakes that feature six-piston calipers in the front and four-piston calipers in the rear.
The customized brick red paintwork, akin to the color scheme of Iron Man’s suit, serves as another notable attribute. Furthermore, the car exhibits unique gray woodgrain graphics on various elements, including the rear spoiler and distinctive body trim.
Although the exterior received significant modifications involving the application of “modern materials,” SpeedKore undertook interior enhancements to preserve the classic European ambiance.
SpeedKore crafted an Italian-inspired cabin with luxurious chocolate leather upholstery adorned by intricate gray stone embroidery. This aesthetic is complemented by vintage-style gauges and a concealed touchscreen display, maintaining the car’s classic charm.
The cabin retains its timeless appearance.
The Nardi steering wheel and dashboard feature the same gray woodgrain accents as the exterior. Even the rear seats and trunk exhibit refined details, with the back seats replaced by a single continuous seating area connecting to the trunk compartment.
Regarding the powertrain specifications and performance, detailed information has yet to be disclosed. However, it is anticipated that the 1974 BMW 3.0 CS will retain a 2.5L 6-cylinder engine similar to the BMW M5 E34, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission.
SpeedKore is renowned in the United States for their expertise in custom muscle car projects. However, this marks their inaugural foray into customizing a classic European automobile. In the past, they have collaborated with Robert Downey on endeavors involving the restoration of a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 and a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro.
