A waiting list is now open for the upcoming Range Rover Electric model. The British automaker claims that it will be the “quietest and most refined Range Rover ever produced.”
Land Rover has started the development of the new car using virtual reality environments and has tested numerous physical prototypes worldwide, from the freezing cold of Sweden to the sweltering conditions of Dubai. The British brand is conducting rigorous testing and evaluation of the electric powertrain, battery, chassis strength, and performing dynamic tests to determine cooling reduction levels.
The Range Rover Electric will offer performance equivalent to a top-of-the-line V8 Range Rover and will have towing, wading, and off-road capabilities to “outperform any other luxury electric SUV”. Those who sign up for the waiting list will have the opportunity to be among the first to pre-order.
The platform for the Range Rover Electric will be Jaguar Land Rover’s flexible longitudinal modular architecture. The car will be designed, engineered, and manufactured in the UK alongside the brand’s current mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. Additionally, the electric drivetrain and batteries will be produced at the brand’s electric powertrain manufacturing center in Wolverhampton. The Range Rover Electric will also feature an 800-volt electrical structure, enabling fast charging, the ability to wade through water up to 850mm, and over-the-air software updates.
