For car enthusiasts, vintage cars always possess a special charm that only a few can resist. Recently, an auction showcased one of the most valuable vintage cars of all time, which was sold for an astonishing $22 million (approximately 512 billion VND).
This exceedingly rare beauty is none other than the SSJ 1935, a model produced by the prestigious American luxury car brand Duesenberg back in the 90s. Only two units of the SSJ 1935 were ever manufactured, presented as gifts to Hollywood legends Clark Gable and Gary Cooper.
The SSJ 1935 weighs about 2.4 tons, which is the equivalent of a Bentley Continental GT 2018 supercar.
Underneath its hood, the car boasts a supercharged 8-cylinder inline engine with a 6.9L displacement, which is quite impressive even by modern supercar standards, despite only producing 400 horsepower. Numerous sources suggest that this magnificent vehicle can reach a top speed of 225.3 km/h, making it one of the fastest commercial cars of its time.
Regrettably, due to the impact of the 1929 economic recession, the Duesenberg brand and its products were forgotten in the global car market.
Nonetheless, the marvelous SSJ 1935 has transcended the test of time and continues to captivate vintage car enthusiasts.
During the Monterey Car Week in California, USA, the SSJ 1935 was sold at auction by Gooding & Company, setting a new record with a mind-boggling price of $22 million (approximately 512 billion VND). It has now become the most expensive American car and the highest-priced vintage car to date. Surpassing the previous record of $13.75 million held by the sports car Shelby Cobra CSX 2000 auctioned in 2016.
