“Concept cars often make people say ‘wow’ but they are often not produced. VF 7 was created to fulfill that dream by retaining the soul of the concept design in a commercial vehicle,” said Paolo Smeriglio, Head of Project Management at Studio Torino Design (Italy), revealing the design of VinFast VF 7 for the first time.
Spectacular beauty and inspiration from supersonic planes
– How do you define a beautiful car?
For Torino Design, a beautiful car must stand out on the street and have its own recognizable signature. We always strive to create products that combine all 4 elements: unique overall design, distinctive details, refined finishing and optimum functionality. VF 7 is a typical example of a car that combines all 4 elements.

– What was the inspiration behind Torino Design’s creation of VF 7? And what is the message you want to convey?
The design of VF 7 is inspired by aerospace with its characteristics of speed and agility. From there, we refine each design line to bring the perfect beauty of a car. This SUV has a powerful front end with futuristic features at the rear, combined with sharp lines to create a sporty overall appearance that attracts every gaze.
Most users enjoy looking at concept cars for their pure and futuristic beauty. However, not every concept becomes a commercial car or retains the essence when it is produced. VF 7 was created to fulfill that dream by being a commercial car that is not different from the concept version.

– On the body of VF 7, we see a lot of triangular shapes created from very strong cuts, giving VF 7 the appearance of a spacecraft. Could you explain more about these details or designs on VF 7?
You have a keen eye! That is very true. However, almost every detail of VF 7 has a very high aesthetic value and its own characteristics. If you look at the side of the car, the raised creases and convergent cut lines contribute to creating triangular shapes. Those shapes are inspired by the design of supersonic planes, especially in the details of the wings and jet engines. This helps enhance the sense of speed and agility in VF 7. Meanwhile, the rear end of the car resembles an aircraft wing.

– What will drivers feel when using this vehicle?
Certainly, excitement. VF 7 is optimized for aerodynamics and is 2-3 times more powerful than gasoline cars in the same segment. The technological, futuristic and sporty design will also excite you even more.
When you sit behind the wheel, you will feel like you are in control, conquering all roads. The HUD system and minimalistic design allow you to fully focus on driving.

– In the process of designing VF 7, what was the most challenging issue and how did Torino Design solve it?
The design process of VF 7 was indeed challenging, both aesthetically and technically. Aesthetically, the challenge for us was to create a design that is beautiful over time, while still being unique and futuristic. The design of the front of the car was also a significant challenge. With a not too large length, we had to incorporate all the details, from the front bumper, headlights to the radiator grille, sensors… while still optimizing aerodynamics and meeting the highest crash test results.
The stability of VF 7 is also an important issue. This feeling on the car was achieved because the design team decided to increase the width of the car by an additional 70mm. Part of the increased width was used to improve the interior space, while the rest was used to widen the rear fender.
VF 7’s design is a perfect combination of ideas, passion, and practicality
– In terms of aerodynamics, what did Torino Design do to create uniqueness as well as optimize performance on VF 7?
On VF 7, the design team has optimized the aerodynamics in every aspect. For example, the low-profile hood is seamlessly transitioned to the windshield area to reduce pressure. The sloping design of the roof creates small air vortices and elongates to create air swirls above and behind the car. The hidden door handles and hidden rear wipers also contribute to this index, while making VF 7 even more elegant and visually appealing. The front end of VF 7 is rounded, while the rear end has straight edges that act as a spoiler to create the best airflow. In addition, each detail, from the wheels and windows to the rearview mirror, had to be fine-tuned to reduce noise and provide optimal aerodynamics.
– In addition to the exterior, the interior of VF 7 also impresses the public. What is Torino Design’s secret?
The unique feature of VF 7 is the design that focuses on the driver – “Asymmetric Universe”. This philosophy is applied to many car models, but they fail to meet many criteria.
The interior of VF 7 demonstrates minimalism and sportiness in every aspect. The HMI (Human Machine Interface) interface on the car is concentrated in the same area in front, with all controls for entertainment information, gear shifting buttons, HUD… This design allows the driver to enjoy the sporty feeling when driving VF 7, easily control tasks without losing focus.
Meanwhile, thanks to optimized design, the passenger positions are also ensured to be spacious and comfortable to enjoy the top amenities in a car.

– In reality, to create a masterpiece like VF 7, what process did Torino Design go through?
To solve those challenges, the entire design team at Torino Design contributed ideas. We have spent over 80,000 hours working on the entire VF 7 project to create the car as it is today.
