Adventure motorcycles are designed for long-distance travel and offer versatile performance across various terrains, all while providing a comfortable riding experience. In Vietnam, there are several adventure motorcycles available in the price range of 200 million VND, ranging from 300 cc to 500 cc, making them suitable for beginners.
KTM 390 Adventure (236 million VND)
The KTM 390 Adventure 2022 was recently introduced to the Vietnamese market in September. Priced at 236 million VND, this model saw an increase of 61 million VND compared to its predecessor. It is currently the highest-priced adventure motorcycle under 500 cc.
The KTM 390 Adventure 2022 comes with notable features such as a 5-inch TFT speedometer that displays crucial bike information like speed, mileage, and various system readings. It also includes a GPS navigation system mount and a 12V USB charging port. The fuel tank has a capacity of 14.5 liters.
The 390 Adventure has undergone improvements to enhance the riding experience. The seat height has been lowered to 830 mm, making it more suitable for Vietnamese riders compared to the 2020 model with 855 mm seat height. The bike’s weight remains at 158 kg, making it the lightest among adventure motorcycles under 500 cc.
In terms of technology, the 2022 390 Adventure offers a two-way quickshifter as an optional addition, Bosch 9.1 ABS on both wheels, cornering ABS, MTC traction control, and directional guidance displayed on the speedometer. Additionally, it is equipped with two riding modes: Street and Offroad.

The KTM 390 Adventure stands out with its attractive design, advanced technology, and compact yet flexible body. However, the higher price may pose a challenge for potential buyers.
Honda CB500X (193.79 million VND)
Honda introduced the upgraded 2022 version of the CB500X in September. The new version features inverted Showa 41 mm SFF-BP front forks.
Compared to the 2021 version, which had a single disc brake, the 2022 CB500X comes equipped with dual disc brakes featuring a diameter of 296 mm and two-piston calipers. The fuel tank capacity of this adventure model has also been increased by 0.2 liters to 17.7 liters. The seat height has been raised by 4 mm to 834 mm.
The 2022 Honda CB500X is powered by a twin-cylinder 471 cc liquid-cooled engine, producing 47 horsepower at 8,600 rpm and a maximum torque of 43 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The bike features 2-channel ABS, a slipper clutch, and an anti-lock braking system to enhance performance during gear shifts.

The 2022 Honda CB500X is estimated to cost around 193.79 million VND. Despite having a larger engine displacement, this model is priced lower than the KTM 390 Adventure. It targets the 300 cc adventure motorcycle segment. However, the design and equipped features are not particularly outstanding.
Kawasaki Versys-X 300 (145.4 million VND)
The Kawasaki Versys-X 300 has been on the market for 5 years since its introduction in 2017. In 2020, the model underwent a major upgrade to enhance its competitiveness.
Compared to its direct competitor, the KTM 390 Adventure, the Kawasaki Versys-X 300 has a less attractive appearance and utilizes an inverted fork front suspension with 130 mm travel. The front brake uses a Nissin 2-piston caliper combined with a 290 mm diameter disc brake.
The combination of an analog and digital speedometer display lends a simple look to the Versys-X 300. The bike is equipped with a twin-cylinder 296 cc liquid-cooled engine, generating 39.3 horsepower at 11,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 25.7 Nm at 10,000 rpm.

The Kawasaki Versys-X 300 offers two versions: City and Touring, priced at 145.4 million VND and 163.1 million VND, respectively. These prices are considered affordable and cater to beginners. However, the model’s design and features are not particularly impressive.
Royal Enfield Himalayan (143-149 million VND)
Introduced in Vietnam in 2018, the Royal Enfield Himalayan stands out among adventure motorcycles in the 200-million VND price range due to its classic design. The Himalayan retains adventure bike features such as spoke wheels, windshield, protective frame, and rear luggage carriers.
Previously priced at 132 million VND, the Himalayan reentered the market in 2022 with a higher price range of 143 to 149 million VND. Nevertheless, it remains the most affordable adventure motorcycle under 500 cc in Vietnam.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan is powered by a single-cylinder 411 cc air-cooled engine, producing 24.5 horsepower and 32 Nm of torque. It comes with a 5-speed manual transmission and offers front telescopic suspension and rear coil springs.

The Himalayan’s competitive advantage lies in its affordability. However, the bike’s weight of 191 kg and comparatively lower engine power may be potential drawbacks for some riders.
Royal Enfield Scram 411 (140 million VND)
The Royal Enfield Scram 411 is the latest addition to the brand’s lineup in the Vietnamese market. While sharing the same engine as the Himalayan, the Scram 411 is positioned as a more affordable adventure model.
Unlike the Himalayan, the Scram 411 features a Scrambler-inspired design while retaining the essential characteristics of an adventure bike. The model includes classic features such as a halogen headlight and an analog round meter combined with a small single-color screen.
Powered by a single-cylinder air-cooled 411 cc engine, the Scram 411 produces 24.3 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 32 Nm at 4,250 rpm. It utilizes a 5-speed manual transmission and comes equipped with a 2-channel ABS braking system.
|
The Royal Enfield Scram 411 is expected to be priced around 140 million VND, slightly cheaper than the Himalayan. In the 300-400 cc adventure motorcycle segment, the Scram 411 offers a competitive price and a larger engine displacement compared to the Kawasaki Versys-X 300 (145.4 million VND) and the KTM 390 Adventure (236 million VND). However, the bike’s features are not particularly outstanding, and its engine lacks power.
