VinFast is reportedly planning to establish an electric battery factory in Thoothukudi city, Tamil Nadu state, India this year, according to certain sources.
At present, VinFast has not provided any official statements regarding this matter, with the company spokesperson only stating that they will reveal further details “at the appropriate time.”
A senior Indian official involved in this issue stated on Tuesday: “Representatives from VinFast have visited locations in Thoothukudi district, Tamil Nadu for inspection purposes.”
Earlier in September 2023, VinFast commenced recruitment for sales, legal, and support positions in India, seeking individuals who are “bold in their thinking, actions, and ability to overcome challenges.”
The scale of investment and the commencement date for VinFast’s factory operations in India remain undisclosed.
In October 2023, the Vietnamese automaker expressed its intention to establish an electric vehicle manufacturing facility in India. VinFast CEO, Ms. Le Thi Thu Thuy, mentioned that the plant is expected to initially have a capacity of about 50,000 vehicles per year and require an investment of approximately 150 – 200 million USD (equivalent to 3.6 – 5 trillion VND). The plan aims for the plant to commence operations in 2026.
