In a small town in Spain named Molins de Rei, artist Pere Tarragó is renowned for his exceptional talent in crafting stunningly beautiful and astonishingly accurate scale model cars with scales of 1:5 and 1:6.
Tarragó’s model cars are unlike any others available. His works are so exquisite and intricately detailed that it becomes difficult to distinguish his models from real cars just by looking at them in pictures.
Overall, Tarragó creates his model cars using techniques common among other craftsmen, such as turning, milling, and welding. However, regular tools are inadequate for these tasks, so Tarragó invents his own specialized tools.
The process of making Tarragó’s models starts with photographing, sketching, and creating a design that closely resembles the real car. Tarragó often selects vintage Spanish cars like Bultaco, Montesa, and OSSA as the models. Occasionally, he also creates models based on Italian brands like MV Agusta and Moto Guzzi, or American brands like Henderson and Indian.
Once satisfied with the design, Tarragó starts constructing the model using materials such as steel, aluminum, bronze, and Nappa leather.
About a week later, Tarragó assembles the components into a complete model and tests the functionality of the brakes, clutch, wheels, and gearbox. Everything functions just like a real car.
In some of Tarragó’s pieces, pressing the foot brake activates the drum brake, and the front suspension functions through cone springs and leaf springs.
After completing the testing process and ensuring that all the components work well and fit together, Tarragó disassembles the entire model and proceeds to the finishing stage, which includes polishing, nickel plating, chrome plating, and painting the components of the model. It takes between 250 and 400 hours to create a finished model.
