The Volvo EM90 2024 is a specially designed all-electric MPV model aimed at Chinese users. It will face tough competition from internal combustion engine models such as the Lexus LM. However, Volvo has no plans to release this model in Western markets.
This new model from Volvo draws inspiration from the 1953 Duett, a wagon model that was in production until 1969. The EM90 also shares some design elements with the Zeekr 009, a new MPV model from the Geely Group. These two electric minivans have strikingly similar designs, with the EM90 sporting Volvo’s signature grille, Thor’s Hammer headlights, and other eye-catching details.
In essence, the EM90 can be seen as a Volvo-branded Zeekr 009. It has overall dimensions of 5,209 x 2,024 x 1,867 mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 3,205 mm.
The EM90 is powered by a single electric motor with 268 horsepower, located at the rear axle. This setup allows the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 8.3 seconds. The EM90 is equipped with a CATL 116 kWh battery pack, and it supports DC fast charging from 10-80% in just 30 minutes. According to China’s CLTC standard, the EM90 has a range of 738 km.
Inside the EM90, you will find a spacious and modern interior filled with advanced technologies. The EM90 is designed to be both a luxurious family car and a mobile office on wheels. It features a 2+2+2 seating arrangement with comfortable seats that have electric adjustable backrests, heating, cooling, and foldable tray tables.
Rear passengers can enjoy entertainment or participate in online meetings using the 15.6-inch screen.
The driver’s cabin features a minimalist yet elegant and modern design. The dashboard stands out with a 15.4-inch tablet-style infotainment screen that minimizes the need for physical buttons.
The EM90 is equipped with an advanced driver-assistance system that utilizes a full suite of sensors, including high-resolution cameras, surround-view cameras, millimeter-wave radar, and ultrasonic radar.
The EM90 will be exclusively available in the Chinese market with a starting price of 818,000 Chinese yuan, which is approximately $114,000 USD based on the current exchange rate.
