2024 Toyota Hilux GR Sport – A New Competitor for Ford Ranger Raptor Launches in Southeast Asia

The Toyota Hilux GR Sport 2024 was introduced to the Australian market in January 2023. Finally, the Japanese automaker has brought this exceptional pickup truck to the Southeast Asian region, specifically Thailand, through the Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival 2023. The plan is to start selling the Toyota Hilux GR Sport 2024 in the Land of Smiles next year.

Compared to its Australian counterpart, the Toyota Hilux GR Sport 2024 is almost identical in terms of design and equipment. The only difference lies in the name of this model in Thailand, which will be Toyota Hilux Revo GR Sport.

The Toyota Hilux GR Sport 2024 has an increased height of 15mm and a maximum width increase of 155mm compared to the standard version. Its front suspension system is an independent double-wishbone with coil springs, while the rear suspension system features leaf springs with large diameter monotube KYB shock absorbers. These modifications contribute to reducing tilt angle, enhancing steering precision, and improving vehicle stability.

The Toyota Hilux GR Sport 2024 comes with improved towing capacity and off-road capability. It is equipped with Bridgestone Dueler AT 265/65 R17 tires and unique black Dakar-style 17-inch alloy wheels. The vehicle boasts disc brakes on all four wheels, fixed four-pot calipers with 338 mm x 28 mm front rotors, and a single-piston floating caliper with 312 mm x 18 mm rear rotors, all painted red.

Other notable changes to this pickup truck include redesigned front suspension arms, reinforced rear differential, rescue hook, and stone-resistant side steps and door sills.

Inside, the Toyota Hilux GR Sport 2024 features several improvements. It now boasts a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching at the center and a GR logo at the bottom. Other notable interior features include sports seats with a leather and suede combination, red seatbelts, aluminum pedals, “Technical Mesh” dashboard trim, GR Sport shifter, floor mats, and a JBL 9-speaker audio system.

The Toyota Hilux GR Sport 2024 is equipped with a familiar 2.8L turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine that generates a maximum power of 224 horsepower and a peak torque of 550 Nm. Compared to the standard version, the engine of the Toyota Hilux GR Sport 2024 offers a 10% boost in power. This engine is paired with an enhanced 6-speed automatic transmission for a sportier driving experience.
