As we end the year 2023, BMW has emerged as the leading luxury car manufacturer, surpassing all others in terms of impressive sales and setting a new record-breaking year.

A report by Automobile News reveals that in the entire year of 2023, the BMW brand sold an impressive total of 2,253,835 cars, marking a new milestone for the German automaker. This represents a 7% increase in sales compared to the previous year.

Following closely behind in second place is Mercedes-Benz, with accumulated sales of 2,043,800 cars in 2023, almost on par with the previous year.

Similar to BMW, Mercedes-Benz has also experienced a significant surge in zero-emission car sales, reaching a total of 222,600 units. This represents a remarkable 73% increase compared to the previous year. Both BMW and Mercedes-Benz have focused on selling electric vehicles across various price ranges. Audi retains its third position with a noteworthy growth rate of 18%, selling a total of 1,895,240 cars.

Tesla Inc, the US-based electric vehicle manufacturer, secured the fourth position with a remarkable growth rate of 38% compared to the same period last year. Tesla sold a total of 1,808,581 electric cars. While the sales figures for Lexus and Volvo in 2023 have yet to be announced, it is highly anticipated that these two automakers will secure the fifth and sixth positions, respectively.

BMW’s electric vehicle lineup includes the fully electric i7 and the XM Label Red hybrid, which serves as the replacement for the M1. These two models contributed significantly, accounting for 14% of total sales. In 2023, a total of 330,956 BMW electric cars were sold, marking a significant 92% increase compared to the same period last year.

MINI and Rolls-Royce, both subsidiaries of BMW, added an additional 301,506 cars to the sales volume, further bolstering the sales performance. Overall, the BMW Group sold a grand total of 2,555,341 cars in 2023, representing a significant 6.5% increase compared to 2022.
