The Kia EV9 emerged as the top-selling electric car in the Korean market in December 2023, with a total of 2,688 units sold.
This surge in sales can be attributed to Kia’s aggressive promotional efforts and discount programs for the EV9. Despite facing initial challenges and declining sales since its launch in June, the EV9 managed to bounce back in December.
In June 2023, Kia sold 1,334 units of the EV9. However, sales dipped to 1,251 units in July and further dropped to 408 units in August. To remedy this decline, Kia introduced appealing incentives, leading to a gradual recovery in sales to around 1,000 units per month. However, sales once again plummeted to 375 units in November.
Kia’s discount offerings for the EV9 are especially attractive for a domestic model, with discounts of up to 20 million won (15,200 USD) available, along with additional benefits like electric vehicle subsidies. These incentives could potentially push the total discount to 26 million won (19,700 USD).
With the significantly reduced starting price and numerous incentives, the Kia EV9’s large-sized SUV became highly appealing to customers. The original price, starting from 73.37 million won (56,000 USD), was lowered to approximately 50 million won (38,000 USD), resulting in a surge in consumer interest. Consequently, the Kia EV9 experienced remarkable sales growth, with a 616% increase in units sold in December compared to November.
The Kia EV9 recently received the prestigious “2024 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year” award, often regarded as the automotive industry’s equivalent of the Oscars. This accolade further validates the excellence and recognition the all-electric three-row SUV has achieved.
