According to a report from Thekoreancarblog, the Kia Sorento surpassed the Hyundai Santa Fe in sales for the month of December 2023 with 8,068 units sold, compared to the Santa Fe’s 7,682 units. This achievement marks the fourth consecutive month that the Kia Sorento has held the title of “best-selling SUV” in the South Korean market. In the same period, the fifth-generation Santa Fe from Hyundai completed its third full month of sales, offering a full lineup of products and aiming to compete for the leading position in the domestic market against the Kia Sorento.
In the previous month of November 2023, the Kia Sorento sold 9,364 units, followed closely by the Santa Fe with 8,780 units delivered to South Korean consumers.
Hyundai Motor introduced the fifth-generation Santa Fe in August 2023, initially selling only gasoline engine variants of this SUV model in the domestic market. However, the absence of a hybrid version in the first two months prevented the new generation model from making a significant impact.
From October 2023 onwards, Hyundai added a hybrid variant to the new Santa Fe, resulting in a considerable boost in sales in South Korea. In October alone, 7,946 units of the new Santa Fe were sold, a significant increase of 3,617 units compared to the previous month of September. Notably, 4,669 of these units were hybrid models, making up 58.7% of the total sales.
Kia also introduced an upgraded version of the fourth-generation Sorento in August 2023 and experienced widespread success in its sales. The Kia Sorento is a highly popular SUV and has been the best-selling model in South Korea for three consecutive years.
In October, the new Sorento continued to lead in terms of domestic sales with 8,777 units sold. However, this was a decrease of over 1,400 units compared to September. The hybrid version of the Sorento accounted for a significant 65.9% of sales, totaling 5,786 units.
There is optimism that the new versions of both models will soon be available in the Vietnamese market.
